The Conservative Party

Amazing.
I can’t believe she’s still prime minister.

she hasn't been for some time. she has been in office but nobody and nothing thinks of her as a functioning PM. And her party's struggles to oust her or hold a consistent view mean they don't appear to be a functioning party either.

PMSL - 36 attempts at knifing Mayday in the back have all failed - meanwhile she hangs on grimly as they fight amongst themselves and the country falls apart ........roll on the next GE - defend that legacy you cnuts.
It most certainly isn't a legacy to be proud of, but I wouldn't bet on Labour being in anytime soon, the Tories
won't be calling for a GE, they'll be there until this term ends. What I would concede however, is that if Labour ditches
Corbyn, then I think they may well win it. The half million membership, a recent anomaly, is actually the problem for them.

It's quite amusing to see the usual lefties rubbing their hands on this thread. And regular readers will know I am absolutely no fan of Theresa May's (quite an understatement that!)

But to be fair to May, all she's trying to do - which she obviously feels deeply about - is trying to honour the referendum result and get some form of Brexit through. It's not her fault half her party won't accept any form of watered-down Brexit, whilst Labour won't accept anything BUT a watered down Brexit. And whilst I think she's backing the wrong horse, I cannot criticise her for standing up for what she believes in, which is to respect the will of the people in the referendum.

She's been in an impossible position from the very start. Yes, she's handled it all terribly, but had she not, the end result would still be the same. Good luck to Boris, if he thinks he can get a harder Brexit through the HoC when the Tories have no overall majority. It's clear there is no form of Brexit which can command a majority in the HoC - the indicative votes showed us that.

It's an impasse which can only be resolved by another referendum.

She has been in an impossible position, but to a large extent it's an impossible position of her own making, because the government decided to go it alone & pander to the extreme right, rather than involving Parliament from the start.

They have brainwashed their followers into believing that the only way Brexit can happen, is if it's extreme, wheras none of them, nor their followes, were voting for that in the referendum.

It's Brexit itself which is the problem, not May's deal & she has allowed the right, to pretend there is a perfect Brexit available & con the public into believing it, rather than showing them the truth.

Plus David Davies was involved from the kickoff & achieved fuck all, but nobody pointed it out, she took over instead. She could have sent Mogg & Boris with him & then cashed in, when they came back holding only their dicks, but instead put herself in charge.

Yes, pretty much agree with all of that. She's fucked it up entirely.

Books will be written on this whole fiasco, and I don't just mean the Tories' dismal handling of it post-referendum. How we got here in the first place - years of brainwashing by the right-wing press; how and why Cameron was pressured into agreeing to the referedum; the way the public were manipulated through social media and dodgy if not illegal campaigning tactics; and of course the pitiful general election campaign. Had anyone but May led it, the Tories would have had a majority of 100 and Brexit would have happened by now.

Likewise, if not for Corbyn & his weirdo army hijacking the Labour Party, there would be no Tory Government & no Brexit.

Yes it's all rather bizarre isn't it. I am passionately opposed to Brexit, and perhaps even more passionately opposed to a Corbyn government, so stuck between a rock and a hard place!

"Anything but this" would walk the next GE, or the next referendum for that matter.

The problem was there from the start - i fully agree. Where May went wrong was avoiding it for 2 + years while everything stagnated. She should have had this out day 1 in the HoC.

As one of the most vocal anti brexit voices on here I have been saying brexit is dead for a long time. The reason being is that a soft form is the only one that can work and it would have needed compromise from both sides - hard line tories accepting the economy and NI/ROI border must have workable solutions to the problems of brexit and Labour and the many pro Eu MPs accepting a soft brexit is better than risking a chaotic exit. That was the course of action that would have delivered. Instead she aligned herself with hardline brexiteers in public with her redlines whilst building some elements of a compromise in to the plan. Ultimately a plan that no one could live with and she cant change it as she had it ratified by the EU without getting the HOC to sign it off. Everything done in the wrong way and at the wrong time. Her legacy is that the position is far worse now. MPs are entrenched in their views.

There will be no consensus on brexit, especially not a Boris brexit - the only thing to play out is how we avoid the October deadline. No deal had been ruled out with a Commons Majority, it is not a great leap for that majority to agree to revoke A50 instead of extending again. The fact many Tories hate Boris makes that far more likely.

No leadership anywhere & Vince Cable, the voice of 'Remain'. I bet there could be 100 even more dividing/damaging referendum fiascos & all kinds of horrible shit voted for right now, if the public were given the options by the so called Government.

It's at times like these when the shithouses cash in & they are all trying to do exactly that.

The country needs a leader & the only people stepping forward, are all totally unfit for the job.

But at least their not German or French (

Or bald and blonde with a ridiculous comb-over.

The old Monty Python sketch when a customer reports a dirty fork & it ends with the staff going berserk, the manager having a nervous breakdown & the chef smashing his cleaver into the table, with the punchline " Good job I didn't tell them about the dirty knife! " springs to mind for me.

This is the Withdrawal Agreement.

The next phase, would be Boris Johnson or similar, actually using his skills, negotiating the deal itself, which we haven't even fucking started doing yet.

May is doing a cabinet reshuffle. Can see Tory MPs turning up en masse on her doorstep with pitchforks or voting no confidence in her via a rule change and she would still refuse to resign as PM. Actually I’m not sure there is a mechanism to oust her if she just refuses to go except losing a vote of no confidence in the house but that means a GE and will any Tory MP vote for a GE right now?

Longer she stays the more Brexit gets buggered as do the Tory Party. Not seeing a downside here :)

I quite agree - whilst some on here turn a Conservative Party thread into a Labour bashing thread in an exercise of whataboutery but I have to say I am loving Maydays actions thus far - I did like the quote off IDS that may is barricaded in number 10 and "she has put the sofa behind the door". It must be like Downfall in there by now.
