Alexandole Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

They don't control national insurance tho, which will be paying for tax cuts in England. Not even sure you'd need Brexit being pushed through to give independence the boost it needs with this policy from Johnson, but combine the two and it's surely the end of the UK as we know it.
I dont know whether he consulted Scottish tories over this, but all they would have to do is follow suit on tax. Couldn't cares less about the union myself, but this shows the nonsense of the devolution settlement. Suppose Corbyn were elected, he would increase income tax and the boot of inequality would be on the other foot. England's increased income tax would subsidise Scottish taxpayers unless the Sc. Gov. followed suit. We can't have it all ways, it's either common tax rates or accept the vagaries of difference. Even if Scotland voted tomorrow for independence, there would not be total fiscal independence, as that would bankrupt Scotland overnight.

The tax reduction was going to be part funded by NIS increase which is not a devolved competence. SNP will argue poorer people in Scotland are being forced to subsidise ‘rich English toffs’.
It's not just the independence issue either, the Tories won 13 Scottish seats at the last GE, they could easily be wiped out at the next GE if that tax policy is being put forward and the Tories are hardly in a position to be shedding 13 seats anywhere. Johnson's tax policy is also likely to cost some low/middle income votes in England with a significant rise in NI rates, as usual with him it's a handy soundbite but there's no forward thinking behind it other than trying to garner MPs and Tory membership votes.

Yep. Like all the candidate proposals be it on Brexit or anything else it’s all button pushing for the elderly Tory members. Sticking it to the EU, cutting taxes, abortion, gay bashing blah blah

And a gift to Labour, SNP etc

I have an open mind. Your prejudice is evident.

Interesting insight into Johnson don’t you think?

I’m sorry but taking anything from her twitter feed as any kind of fact would be shall we say.......silly.

She is hardly impartial is she?

Er, the Scottish parliament controls income tax rates. Are you suggesting that a PM, therefore, cannot reduce tax, because of devolution ..?

no I am suggesting the cynt will do and say anything to become leader and PM - if dropping Ruth Davidson and Scottish Tories in it is the price they have to pay for his success he will have no qualms in leaving Ms Davidson to face some questions about the disparity - nobody gets to even speak to Johnson these days - I think he may have turned vampire..........

Just watching a Tory MP supporting Boris struggling to justify him and Maitlis is bringing up all the arguments about his shady past that is unsettling him - badly. From tomorrow when Boris opens his mouth it is going to be open season on him in the press - he will get slaughtered.

No he won't.

All he needs to do is get on the ballot, if he can do that and he can, he's home and hosed.

Sadly you’re correct.
As shown the poll yesterday around two thirds of the Tory membership think he’s great and are either unaware, in denial or don’t care that he’s an incompetent low life arsehole.
The same applies to a big enough number of Tory MPs who will ensure he’s in the final two.
I’m guessing you’ll be happy as it gives your man Corbyn the best chance of winning an election.

Not really.

Boris Johnson as Prime Minister is too ghastly a prospect. I don't know anyone in Labour who wants Johnson in No 10 because it might help Corbyn.

Some things are more important than short term political gain, and my country is one of them.

Glad to hear it.

The only saving grace of having Johnson as PM is that his total incompetence will prevent him delivering his reactionary agenda.

He is incompetent, but that's the new norm. Johnson will inherit May's numbers and he will (hopefully) fail because of that.

He might well plunge this country in to a constitutional crisis if he attempts to curtail Parliament, Labour's motion to make it impossible for Johnson to exit with no deal is pivotal, if that motion fails and Johnson wins then we're really in trouble.

Labour, amazingly, is holding its shit together (for now) despite attacks from within and without. The sorry fate of Change UK has blocked the exit door for the blairites in the party but I wouldn't put it past them to try another coup, I guess they think the desire to remain amongst the membership is strong enough to prise enough of them away from Corbyn, but they're mistaken. The members might not like Corbyn's stance on Brexit but not enough to put a blairite clone in charge of the party, the memory of blairite/third way/soft Toryism is still too fresh.

Tory MPs know Johnson is a self-centred gerbil and will make it all about him, but they don't care. If he somehow manages to accomplish the Brexit shit-show they'll share his success, but if he fails they'll disown him safe in the knowledge that Labour won't provide credible opposition at a GE. His popularity in the media means his supporters will face little criticism for backing him as leader.

Everything will be fine. His policy tsar (a what now? he needs a tsar already?) Liz Truss said this morning that he's been working 24/7 on his campaign, and how the tax change is fair (because it resets it more towards the 5% who originally paid the top rate).

24/7 he's on the job then.

She was an embarrassment. Unsurprisingly, given her track record. I did enjoy the 'people are saying bad things about him because they like him' logic.

Even Humphrys, right wing apologist that he is, was incredulous at the bollocks she was spouting. Explains why he's not done any interviews yet, as the amount of murky shit he's done means it beggars belief he's even a contender to be PM, and fingers crossed the buffoon act won't stand up when he gets asked about the affairs, lying, drugs, conspiring to have journalists beaten up, causing a British national to be detained in Iran...

Was it on Radio 4 as well then? Haven't heard that.

I saw a clip on the TV this morning - the repetition just suggests that she has a memorised mantra to trot out.
