It's Quiet 32 - enter at own risk

If Philip Lahm never got close after everything he did, it would be ludicrous that Van Dijk gets it for winning one trophy and having one decent season.

Many Liverpool fans wanting it, are only wanting it so they can "lord it" on social media; don't think they are actually truly bothered. That's the way of the world now that everyone has an open forum to express their opinions.

Couldn't put it better. Look he's good. very good. But he wasn't the reason why they pushed us so close. It was that front 3 or 4 with Origi of late.

They were the match winners along with the fullbacks with assists.
I can recall the media talking him up a lot last season but what was curious is that I don't recall him being pinned regularly as motm on too many occasions. That's because in many of their games he was not the difference, it was those jammy own goals or last minute winners from one of their front three that was the diffrence. Good player though have to be honest but his productivity is overblown.

So he can't play the same way as he would in City's team.

Which was the point, I think.
The point I was making is that not necessarily that he can't play the same way, it was more that based on the way the two teams set up, there is no way he has more to contend with tactically than Laporte. Not a chance.

Tactically, City's defenders are more isolated but their fullbacks are mainly only good going forward & he usually has to win or block pretty much everything in their box, then has no quality to pass to when on the ball other than knocking it forward.

So it's not an easy job under those circumstances.

I disagree. He'd be a perfect fit.
If we had Laporte and Van Dijk at Centre half we'd have won the lot. The lad is the best around in his position and I absolutely hate it that Liverpool have got him. He's everything you want from a defender and more like Kompany was 5 seasons ago or a Vidic in his prime. Great on the ball, superb in the air, brilliant at reading a game, hardly gets beaten for pace and a commanding/powerful presence. Without him, Liverpool are finishing 4th in the league and have no chance of ever getting to a Champions League final. End of story.

Liverpool have a midfield 3 of Henderson, Fabinho and Wijnaldum, none of which are world class. Van Dijk has to deal with alot more at Liverpool than he would at City and makes everything look easy. Imagine him alongside Laporte, with our midfield Infront of him. We'd probably only concede about 12 goals in a season.
Laporte and Van Dijk are the two best in the league and both possess different qualities needed in a centre back.

We were never going to have both VVD and Laporte, though. We went for Laporte because VVD was deemed too expensive. At least that appeared to be the gist of the Amazon documentary.
