FIFA Women's WC France 2019

It's worth mentioning that France started the men's World Cup at a very slow pace. They needed a penalty and an own goal to scrape past Australia, they inched through the Peru game, and failed to score against Denmark in the group stages. They only looked capable of winning the World Cup once Pavard scored against Argentina, which was midway through the second half in the last sixteen. They did one thing tonight that Japan couldn't by controlling and comfortably winning a game against Argentina, and Japan are one of the tournament dark horses. There's a long way to go in this tournament and England look like one of the strongest teams in it.

That says it all about the level of this tournament then because England are appalling.

What the fuck are you on about?

I'm on about England are very poor. Did you watch that and think they were good? The side they played were absolutely terrible. England struggled to even do the basics of football. Sorry if I'm not supposed to comment on the standard of that game being worse than an u123s match because they're women.

What a load of nonesense, England played some really good football. I've never seen a better performance from an Englands womans team, they were fantastic.

Had a few cans, have we?

England were wasteful in front of goal and their decision making in the final third left a lot to be desired but they kept Argentina at further than arm's length for the entire game. It's why the BBC gave their POTM award to Jill Scott. She completely dominated the midfield. It's one of the most dominant 1-0 wins I've seen in recent times. Telford had one save to make throughout and it was a shot from distance that was straight at her. You have to credit the midfield and defensive unit even if Kirby and Taylor didn't have their best games.

I understand the need to call a spade a spade - England weren't at their best in front of goal - but to watch one or two games of this tournament and completely dismiss it is lazy and reductionist. You're judging women's football against the men's game which is a foolish thing to do. Women's football is decades behind in quality because it's decades behind in funding, research, accessibility, and coverage. It's a different sport to the men's game at present - judge it as such.

Yeah, I've watched most of the games in the tournament so far. I thought the final ball, shooting, decision making and crossing from England was really bad tonight.

Ha, no weekend off the beer for me. I actually watch a hell of a lot of women's football and that's due to work reasons. It's the final ball and decision making that I think is so bad rather than the physical side. Keeping Argentina at arms arms length is the equivalent of the men keeping Latvia at arms length. They barely tried to artack all night.

The England team have went backwards, look absolutely nowhere near the level anymore of the top countries, and I put that down to nothing more than coaching and that falls at the door of Neville who’s actually a fucking idiot,Cushing or the Chelsea coach Hayes ? is it,would have them playing and winning in a better way,Neville’s problem is he thinks he’s actually a good coach and man (woman) manager,he’s chopping and changing and over complicating things thinking cause he’s won trophies under baconface he’s a fully bonafide top coach the fucking prick ...
