The Conservative Party

Words simply fail me. And these people are selecting our next PM. Does anyone have a rational explanation for this? The C and U party would rather see the breakup of the U.K. than give up on Brexit. I wonder how Ruth will explain this one.

The Tory party is always classed as a right wing party, and while the party is indeed right wing, it is not first and foremost a right wing party, it is primarily a reactionary class based party, with its representatives more interested in the maintenance of their own power than the pursuit of a right wing ideology.

Not being rigidly ideological has meant the party has traditionally been quite flexible and that has served them well. However, the problem with having no ideological underpinnings does mean that the memberships reactionary tendencies are the only real glue that holds them together, and it's this reactionary glue that's now tearing the party to pieces.

I reckon they’ve just found their ideology by the looks of things.

The fucking idiots.

Not really, if a group of people are united only by what they hate, in this case Corbyn and the EU, then what they're for, the Tory party, a United Kingdom and so on becomes secondary.

The well being of their fellow citizens has never been a priority for the Tories.

Yes and I’m saying that hatred is their new ideology.

Ideology

A system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy.

Key here are the two words theory and policy.

Hate can be a political force but it has no political theory or ideology.

Take Farage, he harnesses hate but refuses to produce a manifesto for the Brexit party and when one was produced for UKIP back in the day, he declared he hadn't read it, that was quite deliberate. Farage has a political ideology for sure but you only get glimpses of it, his main strength is evasion and dog whistling to keep the hate on the boil, that's all he does, if he were more up front about what he believes then the haters might disagree and wander off, so he keeps the hate going by banging the drum for the things the haters hate.

Johnson is doing the same, hate will propel him in to number 10, anything he says now will muddy the waters, what he's for, how he's going to do the things he's hinted he'll do, that sort of thing, so he deliberately keeps quiet.

All Johnson needs is for those reactionary fuckers in the Tory party to keep on hating, while he does a fan dance in front of them.

I have been saying on here for the past 2 years that Brexit is a Tory thing ( denied by Brexiteers and Tories ) as their govt shat themselves over Farage - their govt instigated a referendum - their govt took it upon themselves alone to negotiate a deal and get it through Parliament and their govt that has royally fucked up. The result of all of that will be the end of Toryism as we know it. The Party will fragment as Boirs fails to please all wings because that is just not possible - if we leave it will be an economic disaster which will be laid at their door.
Yes Labour are in a tizz over the same subject but it matters not a jot - despite a wee last minute dalliance at cross party talks by Mayday - and that was solely to try and save her own skin - Labour will survive, probably elect a new leader but continue with much the same policies which, after austerity and Brexit disasters will look like manna from heaven to the electorate even if it isn't - since 1973 the Tory Party has been fighting with itself all to arrive at where we are now. Thatcher, Major and to a degree Cameron when first elected did a marvellous job controlling things. All those interim leaders, IDS, Howard and Hague stood no chance as when out of office they were like a pack of rabid dogs fighting for control to get themselves back onto track to the destiny which now awaits them. I wish them well and every success in this final action where the Divine Wind faction of the Tory Party smashes onto the deck in a futile attempt to prevent the inevitable.

I don’t disagree with that but it doesn’t take anything away from my point that they’re all rallying around the ideology of being independent from the EU and it’s thrown all logic out of the window.

Ahhh - but as Grandma would say - "its an ology"

That's not an ideology, knowing what your against is not enough, you have to know what you're for, it has to be more than a political objective

The SNP has a political objective, an independent Scotland, but what is SNPism? Fuck knows, it leans to the left, a bit, because of the political make up of Scotland, but it leans that way because that's the political price one must pay if your objective is an independent Scotland, it's political expediency, nothing more.

Wanting to be an independent country, outside of a political bloc isn’t just an against/anti position.

Raab gone with 30, Javid squeaks through on 33 and Rory in with 37.

Hunt and Gove barely move and Boris out in front by a mile with colleagues on 126.
