Comes from food or drink high in uric acid. The thing is, SO much food contain this it’s astonishing more people don’t get it.My mum suffers regularly. Is a bit of a pissheads illness? cos she likes a drink

Good effort mate! but isn’t it 6 fingers we’re supposed to have?? :-)Does it spread to your other 5 toes in time, it must be a bugger coming from Burnley if that is true :)
Don't know where this list came from but it doesn't accord with the evidence that I've seen. Food and drink is not generally high in uric acid, people make their own and it is from the products of food that is high in purines. Not all food that is high in purines appear to be implicated in gout , most veg is not though people with a high fructose diet usually form sugary drinks but may be lots of sweet fruit are more prone to gout and alcohol particularly beer and spiriits seem to be bad.Comes from food or drink high in uric acid. The following foods may contribute to gout:
Lamb, herring, tuna, cod, trout, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, rabbit, venison, quail, pheasant, goose, tongue, liver, brains, kidney, sweetbreads, freshly squeezed fruit juices, asparagus, mushrooms, peas, cauliflower, tomatoes (especially tinned tomatoes), dates, prunes, lychees, plums, pears, milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, beer, sunflower/safflower/soybean/cottonseed oils, sugary drinks, white flour, salt, coffee...
And especially not drinking enough water.
You’re fucked mate.Sounds horrific tbh. Hopefully a vegetarian diet will decrease my chances of getting it, although on the flip side I can be a bit of a pisscan at times.
It’s also linked to intelligence, he should be fine ;-)You’re fucked mate.
Two of the top four causes of gout are being male and alcohol

My mate has it, ive seen him close to tears when he gets a bad un as he calls it and he's as hard as nails, I wouldn't even tell him to fuck off over the phone.. If he struggles that badly, i can only imagine how bad it must be for sufferers. Anyone who suffers has my utmost sympathy..!It’s a terrible pain and I feel for anyone who has the condition, touch wood not had a flare up for a couple of years but I drinks masses of water to flush the urate crystals out, it’s one of those afflictions that people who have never had it snigger at.
Some funny posts in this thread but boy feels like a surface plate has been dropped on my foot, absolute unabated agony, only had the pain once recently, non positive blood test, x-ray showing arthritis in joint. This time acute pain, plus pronounced veins in leg, had to visit Walk in centre (yeah, right) multi diagnosis from gout, cellulitis to infection, just had the precautionary antibiotics, only recently finished, had slight improvement but coming back with a vengeance. Must be serious, missed out on fishing last week could be the same this week.
No drugs were used in the making of this post !
someone recommended apple cider vinegar with baking soda & half a lemon with a pint of water to me a few years ago, thought it was a load of bollocks...old wives shite etc but was amazed the effect it had, took a few days to kick in but really cleared it up....Sorry to hear that and I sympathise as a sufferer. Had a 4 week bout earlier this year which is the worst yet for me. My dad recommends Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar (With The Mother) and says he's had no attack in 3 years but I looked online and I think the medical jury is out on its benefits - could be just coincidence. Need to be careful not to take too much as well as it IS an acid, but I'm going to try it. Aldi sell a cheap version which looks identical at a much cheaper price (£2 for 1/2 litre vs £5.50 for Braggs at Holland & Barrett). Also bought some Cherry Nettle tea off Amazon which is okay but can't really taste the cherry. It's supposed to help.
Regarding footwear, the best standard trainers I found for width have been made by Gelert from Sports Direct and they're dirt cheap. Look shit though! I tried some New Balance trainers off a company because they make them in extra width fittings but £125 and worst of all they're New Balance.
