Harry Maguire

Think that's us out of the running. I highly doubt that we'd even be willing to match that offer and I can't see Leicester agreeing to sell to us for a lower fee than what they've already been offered. Will be interesting to see who we turn to next.

Why do we need to look for cheaper? Are we champions, CL regulars and absolutely fucking minted or not? All teams have to keep improving, don't rest on our laurels.
Believe it or not mate City do have a budget, and if we value maguire at 55m and Leicester want 80m we walk away, this is our position of strength as champions.

Yeah it was shit wasn't it, we only won 4 trophies.
Yes it is staggering the hysterical reaction of some on here. We clearly have a set policy and are not prepared to be distracted from it.
Yes we need to replace Vinny but not as a result of paying out crazy money for a reasonably good central defender.

Hugely disappointing if true. Just hope he turns out as shit as some on here keep saying he is if that's the case. Pisses me off we don't outbid those cünts if it's someone Pep really wants.

It pissed you off when we didn't buy Sanchez or Fred?

I think if Maguire was a player who Pep was obsessed with, like Gundogan, Bernardo or Ederson, then the transfer would have been done v. early, the player would have committed to City in February/March. Even someone like Rodri has been sewn up before July, only waiting for official confirmation.

Maguire, Jorginho, Sanchez, Fred...I think these are players who Pep likes but isn't desperate for, and because it's Pep, he will likely find an alternative and with his coaching they'll be just as good.

Shakes head

I could explain, but that you've come out with a post like that confirms it would be wasted.
Just goes to show how widely accepted the 'unlimited funds' narrative is if even City fans are suckered in by it.

It's not nailed on that he will improve them, Same goes for Wan-Bissaka, Are they players that can get them back fighting for titles I don't think so. Falcao, Di Maria, Sanchez, Martial, Pogba ect all of those players and numerous others bought for big money and big wages and they've still gone backwards, Nothing is a certainty in football especially when they've a complete and utter fool as they're manager.
Let them bang away buying mediocre players. Maguire likes to try play out from the back, United aren't used to playing that sort of football, If they start trying to do it now it could quite easily come back to shoot themselves on the foot, They haven't the players to do it.
Totally agree that two signings like Wan-Bassaka and Maguire will not turn them into anywhere near title contenders, but i think it would be two decent signings. I think more to the point for me is about us and im not that fussed at all about not getting him, especially at the prices being quoted. Keep Otamendi if we can, get Stones back playing as he was for a season and a half, blood Sandler and Garcia maybe and then in 12 months we will have a clearer picture.

I agree, but he seems to be the best available right now, and we could do with a third top class centre back as we play so many games. For me, Otamendi isn't as good as Maguire, too rash and not tall enough for a dominant centre back.

As a 3rd choice CB you don’t spend 70m to replace Otamendi with Maguire.

Indeed. However, the ways the rags are shaping up by the end of the transfer window they will have outspent us and in terms of their wage bill will have left us in the dust.
We are in a position of strength and can chose to spend wisely to maintain that advantage.

So they will have outspent us.
It doesn't mean a lot.
Look who they have invested in, may be good enough to keep them somewhere between 4th and 8th, no better than that.
If you look at Spuds last season they spent nothing and still outperformed the raggies by some distance.

We do still have Stones don't we?

There is no reason him and Laporte cannot be our 2 CBs.

Is it not a back up we require, if Otamendi stays we have one and I think we can still compete with just those 3. Its about how we use them.

Stones is not a busted flush.

Stones was outstanding alongside Laporte at the start of last season then he took a dip in form, Hes capable of having a partnership alongside Laporte for years to come.
£70m for Harry Maguire is insane.

cannot for the life of me see us going into a new season with just three CB's , injury to one and we are in the shite.
We will, now that Maguire looks like going to United thankfully. We either stay how it as regarding CB or we go out and replace Otamendi with young CB. Little bit of forward planning, but in any case 3 CBs looks likely now. There simply is not HG centre back out there that are good enough and reasonably priced. Maguire is well overpriced.

Fernandinho and Eric Garcia (in the cups) will most likely provide cover at CB. Not ideal, but it just shows how stupid it is to spend foreign spot on Bravo.
