Watching what’s going on there and the interesting fact is that many of these ships although British are registered elsewhere for tax purposes, so therefore aren’t usually escorted. Part of me thinks sod them, if they want to dodge taxes they don’t get to use our military paid by the tax payer to protect them. Maybe stump up some cash if they want protection.

You might think differently if there was a genuine petrol/diesel shortage and the prices started to rocket.

This conflict is all down to Trump - Iran were on best behavior under the Obama nuclear deal. Now they don't a F#### and will do whatever to destabilise and drive up oil prices. Expect this to go on and on as Trump will never admit he was wrong to start this conflict.

The Iranians are pushing their luck big time on this, no way the west will tolerate them fucking up oil supplies ..

Hopefully they will stop attacking the tankers because if they carry on I can see Mr Trump and Boris attacking them with some seriously bad intent..

As is the way of these things, it's the Iranian people that will ultimately pay the price.....

Spot on, he had to stick his fuckin nose in on something that was being contained and was working. Netanyahu was wording him up too.

In danger of drifting into Trump thread territory, the Don wants his war to bolster his chances of being re-elected, and Iran is exactly the kind of target he is looking for. Shame he's just too f*cking dumb to understand the consequences.

The facts on the ground are that Trump rip'd up a perfectly functioning deal and slapped on a load of economic sanctions for no reason. Iran have zero incentive to play nice as they are already being punished for no reason. Playing up gives them leverage and drives up oil prices which helps them (+assorted other rogues).

This could play out a number of ways - going back to the Obama peace deal will not be one.

I'm sure most or all you predict will come to pass mate, however, holing tankers will only buy them a little time until they kill one of the crew, then the dice will be loaded and it won't be the US or UK citizens that will be suffering... That's the ultimate outcome of all the pointless wars in the Middle East and beyond...

Yep - they will keep poking the bear until something happens - someone will suffer somewhere. Air strikes most likely, Trump will back down from a ground war.

Got it spot on there. Playing straight into Mr Farts pants. Iran were behaving until he started.

Yep I get that but my point was these guys flying our flag yet not paying taxes to help out.

I have to admit - I dont know how it works with who covers who from a merchant shipping / Navy protection perspective but I guess if the oil is detined for us we have an interest in making sure it gets here.

Do you know minimum wage laws do not apply at sea?
There are UK registered ferry companies paying crew £1.50 an hour.

For me trump needs a sabre to rattle for his supporters, to con them into thinking he is a great american hero.

He tried it at first with N Korea and got played at his own game by Kim who unexpectled didn't bite but played along imho and so now he has turned to Iran as an alternative bogey man nation he can try and look tough on.

It is British registered as far as I can tell. It’s on the Isle of Man register which is a component part of the overall British register and is not a flag of convenience.

Looks like the US “influenced” us in intercepting the Iranian tanker in Gibraltar which has provoked the Iranian response in the gulf. Anyone might think this is part of a plan to get us to abandon the Europeans and dump the Iran nuclear deal and put ourselves firmly in the Americans’ pocket and against our European allies.

Exactly. Can’t spoil the ‘special relationship’ can we. Trying to drag everyone in by calling on their ‘allies’ to help defend shipping when they caused the problem in the first place. Iraq all over again. The problem is we will be mug enough to follow. Will we never learn - God help us when Blow Job gets in.
