Neymar

Neymar is a truly selfish individual and I’m so glad he isn’t at our club. A great player yes but definitely not a team player from what I’ve seen

I have long said this about him, glorious talent but shite professional - yet, his teammates still love him at Barcelona. No idea why but I suspect they are better placed to assess what he is like as a teammate. From a distance and as a fan, he absolutely looks, mostly, self-centered

Would we even attempt to purchase a player without Peps input as part of the process?
Even a world superstar like Neymar. We don't do those kind of deals or those types of player. I for one don't want any big time charlies at City, I suspect neither do Txixi or Pep.
What i am saying is the coach usually gives his input for the recruitment at PSG. Henrique and Tuchel didn't get along and we saw that the owners backed the manager and fired Henrique.
Being or not being at the presentation has nothing to do with the coach being an actor in the transfer.

I rest my case, @Parisian. We'll agree to disagree. If you're happy with your club's way of doing things, fine. That's your prerogative. I would be deeply unhappy if my club did things that way.
I don't really get why it is so important in your view if the coach is present or not at the unveiling with the press.

I gave you the example of Mbappé which is quite telling. Both the player (and his clan) and Emery have said that the spaniard was essential to lure in Mbappé to PSG. Still, the coach was not at the conference. Where is the disrespect ? Nasser and the sporting director are the figureheads of the club and speak to the media when a player is unveiled. There is nothing else to read beyong that.

I was going to let this drop, since I felt I'd been clear. But since you've come back on this, I'll expound: the answer is obvious. Nasser and the Qataris stump up the money. Your sporting director does the negotiating. Who actually works with the player on a daily basis? Who integrates him into his playing system? And who carries the can if that player does not come up to the mark? The coach. He should be totally involved at every point, and especially at the unveiling, since it would be absolutely astonishing if he had not had a major – if not the major – say on recruiting this or that player. The player is not merely the choice of Qatar (or Abu Dhabi, if you want) — he is above all the choice of the coach, who has identified an area that needs shoring up. It is unimaginable that Pep would not be present at the presentation to the world's press of a major recruitment. It just wouldn't happen. But to be fair, it wouldn't happen with Klopp at Liverpool either. Or Pochettino at Spurs. They are all of them central to everything that is done at their clubs, and they are paid big, big money for being so.
Unless of course the recruitment of a player was mainly conceived of as being a marketing exercise for the worldwide image of the club concerned…

Don’t think @FCBarca has said anything out of line here, or displays this apparent “me me me” attitude towards Neymar regarding his club unless I’ve missed some posts.

He/she has said he’d rather not have him back, hasnt he/she?

What if this was all an exorbitant plot by Neymar and Barcelona to sell him at extraordinary amount of cash and buy back at fraction of a price and leave them with large profits?

No sympathy for Neymar or his plight trying to exit the gilded cage of the Qataris but the writing has long been on the wall that to escape PSG is a herculean task. I anticipated an ugly battle when Nasser set any possible transfer of 350M at the outset, it has only surreptitiously dropped since

It will continue to play out like a soap opera

Gilded cage? You mean they have oil money! And why escaping PSG is a herculean task? You mean a "Contract"?

You sound more like a reporter twisting the truth because you hate arabs or are jealous of their money... I can only assume you think the same about City!

Barcelona can fuck off with their holier than thou bollocks, they're just as bad as anyone else, in a league that is tied up by just two teams, sponsored by their fkin state to maintain their competitivity in world football, the very thing that the barca president complained about with City and PSG. FUCK off BARCA

I'd love a gilded cage, be it in Barcelona or Paname. This reminds me of when the Tevez situation was referred to by some as City keeping him as a slave. Topsy turvy! :p

You could say our league is tied up between two teams.

It’s just that one of them hasn’t won it for 30 years.

This guy is miles away from the profile of a City player. i.e. no knobs.
