The mad **** has withdrawn the USA from START.

He as to be mentally unstable, because that is fucking madness.
If any other countries started unilaterally breaking international agreements like Trump is doing there would be sanctions imposed by the international community. Obviously that’s not possible while the US is the most powerful country in the world.

Also in the Dem Nom thread...

Socialism!!!

Sounds fabulous in the abstract. The reality is always a different kettle of fish though.

But carry on :)

I particularly enjoyed the part near the end where the guy said "Socialism is always more popular with the young." :) That was a cute euphemism. Even the Socialist at the end partly admitted tha "it won't solve all the problems. But at least it would make people feel empowered."

She is right, it won't solve all the problems. It really won't solve any. And the only people who will feel empowered eventually will be the socialist political class who are making the decisions.

The common people, on who's behalf all this nonsense is taking place, will be poorer and less free for it.

Yeah, this shit won't fly in America. :) Thank God for that.

The video is told in its simplest form so you can understand the construct of what's happening.

Democratic Socialism isn't designed to "solve everything"; what system can?

It's designed to be better/ fairer for everyone.

History repeats itself and you think capitalism is the answer.

The same/ similar lines of the road trodden before.

And the funny thing is, you don't even see yourself in the political mirror when it's held up...

The answer lies somewhere between pure capitalism and pure socialism.

One of the biggest cons of all time is that the rich capitalists in power have convinced the people that trickle down economics always benefits the poor. It doesn't, but it does always benefit the rich.

Have you seen Thomas Di Lorenzo of the Mises institutes attempt at deconstructing Socialism.

Because it sounds like you are a big fan

Yep,I'm not surprised you subscribe. Your condescencion though as usual is epic. :)

It's always about ideas that the common man can't understand. It's so complicated that it needs to be simplified for us.

Add some undefined and fuzzy claim like " more equitable" or "fairer share"and boom! We've got a Movement baby :)

It's funny that you ignore the things right in front of you.

You CLEARLY, as the 'common man' representative for the US, don't want universal health care, are happy for your war machine to be extended, happy for your big corps to act like people where money is speech. Am I surprised? No longer.

You can see the fires burning around #45s 'leadership', your monies stretched, people dying from lack of basic care, dying from the desires to own guns, on the brink of unnecessary involvement in other countries as well denying people the very thing your country was built upon; immigration.

I'm pretty sure you're a Republican, but just haven't said.

Carry on, then...

I have. He is a bit boring with delivery. But I have.

I laughed at it, he was beyond ridiculous in his talk I saw. He was scaremongering.

Nah! I'm worse than a Republican. I'm an independent. I lean Libertarian. I've said so many times. You just don't listen. You spend so much time trying to define others according to your ideology.

Again, I represent me. I am a common man just like many. But we are not a monolith and thus common sense suggests "a dear leader" just wouldn't work.

You are a good student of leftist diversionary tactics. Throw up lots of claims and accusations against others and claim victory.

My views on Health Care, Military, Capitalism, Trump's administration, or immigration are not all governed by an ideological bent like yours. Nuance matters.

So if you want, pick one. We can examine our views on the one and discuss why we hold such views. But the kitchen sink tactic of yours only works with college kids who don't realize it for what it is, a tactic.

Actually, the real con is from the elitist left who have convinced the world that anyone ever argued for a "trickle down economics"

There is still a 100,000 dollar bet out there to find the Economist who argued for the "trickle down economics." If you can find him, I'm guessing you can win that bet.

As for where the answer lies, it's not between pure capitalism and Pure Socialism. It's rather in knowing that no system solves the problem. The one proven to solve the most though (since the history of humans began) has been free enterprise.

I'm sure a better system exist. We just haven't found it yet. But it's certainly not any of the ones we've previously tried.

He bundles ideas. Kinda like a lot of people to my left do. So that's dissapointing. But I'm certain I agree with his overall thesis that Socialism doesn't provide a suitable system.

Ho! Ho! Ho!!

It's Christmas come early!

Go on then, let's have it.

Explain to me the flaws of a universal system like Medicare-for-all and then win me over about not deserving a basic Human right for health care...

This'll be good.

*opens popcorn for the ready*

The problem with any 'system' is that it is only as good as the people running it. The current US democratic system is utterly corrupt (on both sides of the aisle).

Any system that relies on lobbyists to find the largest donors to ensure more TV adverts to win an election is fundamentally fucked in the arse.

Glad you've found someone else to play with.

You're doing the same thing to @Dax777 as you did to me -- assuming you know how we feel, what we want, what's best for us, what we support, what we don't. I can think of a few other historical characters who thought and acted and spoke like that.

I'm pretty sure you're a totalitarian, but just haven't said.

I've always thought the real thorns stem from the determination of what is a public good and what isn't. The Libertarian assumption is that nearly nothing is; the Socialist assumption is that nearly everything is. The Republican assumption is that more things aren't than are; the Democratic is that more things are than aren't, and the fight comes where there's a disagreement about what is/isn't, and the overall democratic (small d) system determines what is or isn't based on what the public thinks.

Both Libertarian and Socialist ideals by definition stem from a belief set that since most everything or effectively nothing are public goods, the public's view is effectively irrelevant . . . which is why both systems slip inexorably toward totalitarianism.
