One might think this; it's certainly logical.

But looking at the dark underbelly of Trump's supporters, there are a frighteningly large number of people already claiming -- for example -- that these most recent shootings were actually carried out by Antifa then pinned on white supremacists, complete with a false manifesto in El Paso's case (despite the fact that the shooter is in custody) hurriedly put together and released by police complicit with the Antifa movement. Claims of "eyewitnesses" to a "second shooter" in Dayton; claims that the "orchestration" of three shootings similar in time cannot be chance, but a plan to discredit and destroy Trump and the 2A movement.

I can't stress this enough -- NOTHING will shift his hardest core base. Nothing.

Democrats must win in 2020 with turnout. You cannot expect Trump to self-destruct electorally. He won't.

Agree entirely on the core base, they will be unmoved by any event. But the election is one and lost with the 20% least committed Trump / Dem voters. The battle is in getting out the reluctant / wavering voter. Events have a huge impact on that group, the resolve to get engaged changes with events many will resolve now that they will vote against Trump because of this, others will still waver and decide late on, even on the day if they can be bothered to engage. What % turned away from Hilary because of the Emails through the campaign and the FBI announcement late on? Probably enough to lose it. Trump has 4 or 5 of these issues circulating - all working against him, but others can work for him. Issues at the border (even manufactured ones) are his best bet.

More worrying than any of this, is what the thick twat is doing to world markets with his idiotic protectionist policies.

I was reading in the paper at the weekend that Trump has been saying how good it is for the US economy with all the tariff money China now has to pay the US!!!

The utter moron doesn't even realise it is US tax payers who have to pay the tariffs on Chinese imports.

No wonder he's pursuing this idiotic course. He's wiped trillions off world markets in the space of 1 week.

He got 64.2 million votes, but I'm not entirely certain 64.2 million humans actually voted for him. I'm almost certain there was some level of election interference from foreign states that got him over the line in the Electoral College.

That aside, not everyone who voted for him in 2016 was a racist; that is just a statistical impossibility. No doubt, some if not many of them were though, but that doesn't preclude Democrat voters being racist either.

Many people who voted for the multiple business failures and bankruptcy candidate based on his economic policies were just stupid to think that the economy would be in safe hands. The people who fell for his 'drain the swamp' mantra just didn't do their homework. You only have to scratch the surface to reveal his colourful history of swampy behaviour. That leaves the people who voted for him on his immigration policies, and that's likely where the racists sit.

Given what has transpired since the 2016 election (the corruption revelations, the racist rhetoric, etc), the voters who voted for him on his economic and drain the swamp policies are the least likely to vote for him in 2020, although you'll always have the 'anyone but the Dem's' idiots, who are far too stupid to see what is really going on.

Given all that, it is irrefutable that Trump is using racist rhetoric to stir up hatred, and whether he's racist or not (in my opinion he is) anyone who votes for him in 2020 is ACTIVELY voting for someone who promotes racial bigotry. This is the likely reason so many Trump supporters don't like discussing their politics, because they fear being called stupid, gullible and racist.

Summed it up.

I can understand people supporting him at the time of the election if they don’t take much notice of current affairs, but those that still support him now, there really is no excuse.

Does anyone do their homework nowadays?

During the 2017 election, one of the tv companies interviewed a number of young people about where they obtained the information on which they based their voting decision. One woman perhaps summed up the general response when she said that she obtained all of her information from social media. She said that mainstream media was “just too complicated”. She wanted issues to be distilled into something that would help her to quickly make up her mind.

It’s not really surprising how powerful a tool social media has become at elections and referendums

I spoke to a few Americans when I went over a month ago and all of them said the same thing, he is an a**hole but he is doing an okay job. They said they would probably vote for him again on that basis. The number one reason why is what alternative do they have?

Regardless of what you or anyone thinks of Trump personally, the Democrats have to get their own house in order first. It seems to be quite easily forgotten that Clinton was a poor candidate and represented the same old. It wasn't fraud, she lost and she lost because she failed to communicate what she would do about issues facing Americans.

The Democrats have to proceed at their peril and understand that the moral high ground alone isn't a position you can take to win an election. Obama and Clinton thought that and a year prior to the election they laughed at the idea of Trump as president, they aren't laughing now.

I wonder just how badly he'd have to be doing to for it to be classified as a not OK job?

He's ruined US growth and prospects for growth for the US economy
Increased the budget deficit significantly
Put thousands of Americans out of work
He's increased costs for US consumers, hitting the worst off, most
He's set back the aspirations of millions of disadvantaged Americans regarding any hope of decent publicly funded healthcare
He's put us on a course towards military conflict with Iran, where there was none previously
Wiped trillions off world markets, depressed economies all around the globe (he wiped $44bn off the value of Apple with one tweet on Friday).
Done untold damage to a delivering a concerted, world-wide coordinated effort on climate change

And that's not even to mention his other "achievements" in terms of racism, misogynism, corruption etc etc etc

Doing "OK"??? He's an absolute disaster.

And his hair gets more ludcrous by the day.

It's amazing how many bluemoon members keep meeting Americans who say he's doing a great job or an o.k job.

The alternative is someone who is not incompetent and can at least remember the name of the place where the last major shooting took place. If what Trump does counts as doing an ‘ok job’ then Americans who endorse or vote for him are either stupid or feel Trump’s divisive racism is a positive enough factor to overlook his own lack of mental acuity.

Also the ‘poor candidate’ did get 3 million more votes.

FWIW, I did say I’d met some that said that in the Dominican Republic, but they were one couple out of about 12 that were in our volleyball group. The rest were simply embarrassed by him, including some Texans weirdly enough.

someone mentioned there was 24 mass shootings under Obama and only 4 under Trump so doesn't understand why Trump is getting the stick
