Donald Trump

I spoke to a few Americans when I went over a month ago and all of them said the same thing, he is an a**hole but he is doing an okay job. They said they would probably vote for him again on that basis. The number one reason why is what alternative do they have?

Regardless of what you or anyone thinks of Trump personally, the Democrats have to get their own house in order first. It seems to be quite easily forgotten that Clinton was a poor candidate and represented the same old. It wasn't fraud, she lost and she lost because she failed to communicate what she would do about issues facing Americans.

The Democrats have to proceed at their peril and understand that the moral high ground alone isn't a position you can take to win an election. Obama and Clinton thought that and a year prior to the election they laughed at the idea of Trump as president, they aren't laughing now.

Are you Wor
Are you Wor
Are you Worsley in disguise?

someone mentioned there was 24 mass shootings under Obama and only 4 under Trump so doesn't understand why Trump is getting the stick

A couple of things. Obama was in post for 8 years, Trump has been there 2 and a bit. also, is there a definition of 'mass'?

the FBI define mass shooting as 4+ killed.

by that definition there have been 20 this year.

Other definitions suggest 3 or more shot ( not necessarily killed ), using that definition there have been 248, more than 1 a day so far.

plenty of stats out there.

I wonder just how badly he'd have to be doing to for it to be classified as a not OK job?

He's ruined US growth and prospects for growth for the US economy
Increased the budget deficit significantly
Put thousands of Americans out of work
He's increased costs for US consumers, hitting the worst off, most
He's set back the aspirations of millions of disadvantaged Americans regarding any hope of decent publicly funded healthcare
He's put us on a course towards military conflict with Iran, where there was none previously
Wiped trillions off world markets, depressed economies all around the globe (he wiped $44bn off the value of Apple with one tweet on Friday).
Done untold damage to a delivering a concerted, world-wide coordinated effort on climate change

And that's not even to mention his other "achievements" in terms of racism, misogynism, corruption etc etc etc

Doing "OK"??? He's an absolute disaster.

And his hair gets more ludcrous by the day.
Yeah, but most Americans don't actually understand economic data and Trump/Fox are telling them the economy is fine and they're better off so it must be true.
Recession by March though, that'll be a bit harder to bullshit away.

Their economy is doing "OK" - just not as well as it would have been doing were it not for his various fuck ups.

It's the only thing that's propping him up. Well, that and his jingoistic xenophobic rhetoric appealing to the racists.

Their yield curve is at a ridiculous level that's never been reached without being followed by a recession. It's the most sure fire indicator of one. On top of that, Trump has massively increased state subsidies and spending while cutting state revenue, any recession will hit them as hard as the 2008 one did.

Well he does have plenty of experience in bankrupting companies and leaving others to take huge losses. He's just stepping it up a level.

I honestly think that was the plan and he thought the effects wouldn't hit home until after the 2020 election at which stage there'd be no consequences for him (he'd either be re-elected or not and could leave the mess for somebody else to clean up). He badly miscalculated with the China trade war though as their retaliation has moved the timescale way forward.

Saw this book referenced on another thread as well. Just had this book delivered. Flicked a couple of pages. Looks like it will be a good read.
@ChicagoBlue
Timothy Snyder: On Tyranny

Trump’s is an old playbook. Check out the uniform hats and shirts. Almost there!!!

Sad.

There's some serious shit in this book about Putin, Donald, Brexit, etc. And how BJ is following well trodden paths. The 'politics of eternity' is BJ to a T.
Not wishing to open another Brexit conversation but wish this stuff had been more published when referendum was taking place. I'm sure many brexiteers would have thought again.

He's already at it regarding Beto o Rourke, the guy was born in El Paso so it's hit him pretty hard. Knowing you're going visiting there today and you're still tweeting shit.

Security will be on high alert in El Paso today, Trump will be shielded from any sort of protest and ushered in out to avoid such conflict. This is what Trump is all about megaphone politics and because he has the biggest megaphone being the President he will get the coverage and of course the protection and will never face the scrutiny.

Donald Trump has said his rhetoric "has no impact on the country" following accusations that he stoked anti-immigrant sentiment in the run-up to mass shootings that left more than 30 people dead in Texas and Ohio.
