Hammond not impressed

‘It would be a constitutional outrage if Parliament were prevented from holding the government to account at a time of national crisis. Profoundly undemocratic.’

Yesterday’s man who had his chance.

No one cares what he thinks any longer.

Thing with playing games in Parliament to frustrate is there are always others that are equally adept at playing the ****.

This mornings news is welcome and what is needed to finally get us out of the EU.

I share your concerns about a general lurch to the right in western politics at present. I'm slightly more relaxed about it as I view this as cyclical, and no worse really than the Thatcher /Reagan period in the 80's. I don't think the comparison with 1930's nazi era Germany bears comparison, and the problem with 'crying nazi' all the time is that it devalues the significance of the term. I feel in general you throw the term around a little too casually at folk who are quite possibly a bit unpleasant and right wing, but perhaps do not bear comparison with Adolf Hitler.
Correct in the main, but what I'm illustrating is that these extremists will only be heard & listened to because of support from misguided moderates.

This is exactly what happened in Germany, using the jingoistic nationalism, for the aims of right wong extremists. What we're witnessing now is like Thatcher/Reagan on steroids.

There is no polite way to put any of this, but it is what it is. Far right extremism, underpinned by moderates who've yet to wake up & sniff the coffee.

Johnson cares otherwise he wouldn’t be attempting to suspend Parliament. Hammond, Soubry all have a vote and that vote is something Johnson is running from.

The £ plunged on the announcement by the self styled "party of business " led by this "one nation Tory". We will be the next Bury FC - snapped up by some carpet bagger for £1 - probably a dollar or euro as they will be worth more by then - to wring the last bit of cash out of the country before we lock up the gates and are closed down for good. Johnsons reputation will be worse than his predecessors which in itself will be no mean feat.

You lot still haven’t grasped the concept that slurs and insults simply will not change minds or work.

Yeah but the ftse is up.

They have voted to trigger A50 and the default position of leaving with no deal if a deal has not been agreed.

They have had their say and involvement all along.

Predictable response from a man who was in on the games his side was playing yet is now throwing his toys from the pram as the other side plays theirs.

Amazing isn’t it all the plotting yesterday and schemes to stop brexit all fine

Today the prime minister responds and it’s an outrage and an affront to democracy.

And as far the stopping brexit gang yesterday what is the actual proposal to actually end this nightmare. None. Nothing. Just throwing rocks.

Not just ‘a man’ but the Speaker.

Also a country at war with itself, a Parliament at war with itself, a PM elected by 140,000 voters suspending Parliament voted for by the people. You reckon this is ending well for any of us?

I don't think they care about changing minds.

The "Nazi" slurs are about silencing opinion by demonising them by associating it with something heinous. No opposing voice, no opposition.

Completely agree.

I think a lot of people have passed that point tbh, it’s more just visceral anger now.

Everyone should have concerns about the move today, unless their reasons for wanting to leave in the first place weren’t really about parliamentary sovereignty at all. I’m kind of ok with that, at least people would start being honest.

A vote for what bob? Please what is the actual vote those people are voting for.

It’s nothing it’s just a vote to say we don’t agree with anything .

There is nothing suggested , nothing no practical real solution to what happens on 31/10.

Show me what they actually have proposed to vote on to get through this?
