Extinction Rebellion

why should they?

Because it justifies his reasoning. Whilst we in general are shit with our carbon footprint, China is much worse and so Wes can sleep easy as his warming of the planet is trumped by another country and so until they get to Wes’s footprint, he doesn’t care.

Beijing is up to the citizens of China. I'd imagine China would not allow entry to several thousand people hell bent on protesting from abroad ( see recent event in HK with their own citizens ) - it was a silly suggestion

I don’t disagree. It was a poor suggestion. I was merely trying to comprehend his reasons for posting said suggestion.

The reason is obvious, China is one of, if not the, biggest contributor, the UK's is a small fraction.
Why not camp outside the Chinese embassy?

The local Tesco so you can scream into someones face for coming out with their shopping in a plastic bag is far easier to get to in the car mate.

Correct, going for the easy targets is what they do, anything a tad risky or daring, not really.

Yeah the fuckers should be demonstrating at a paint balling event
If they like, but they really should be outside the Chinese/US/Russian embassies as they're the overwhelming
contributors. Tell them to be carbon free in 5 years, as it's going directly to the major sources of the problem, and may get a response,
but they won't will they?
Why not?

And there’s me thinking some don’t want the hassle of dealing with it, self interest one might say.

Anyhow on a completely different subject I was walking down the street before and threw my milkshake on the pavement(no politicians or Tommy’s about) and a bloody cheeky copper says to me “ put that in the bin sunshine”. You should have seen his face when I informed him a guy across the road threw his coke and a bag of chips on the pavement so he should go and bother him coz he’s like worse innit, plus I couldn’t be arsed finding a bin.

Bloody rozzers trying to inconvenience me, anyhow I’m off down deansgate to Pret for a sandwich..... wait who are all of these cunts? Give me that microphone

What do we want? Pret. when do we want it? Now

What do we want? Sandwiches? When do we want it? Now

Nice analogy, but, unsurprisingly, it minimises the extremes of the more serious offence.
If the copper saw you throwing your milkshake on the floor, and was going to remonstrate with you, then sees someone over
the road with a flamethrower torching buildings and people, he may give that his attention, rather than complete his remonstration
with your goodself.

Interesting discussion to be had about this. My initial reaction was how can they let them grind Manchester to a halt with no notice and seeing the inital pictures (10-15 people blokcing the road) made me even more angry.
Pat Carney has been also very vocal about this hurting businesses and residents alike, and reports say this has p*ssed off a lot of people in Manchester, probably causes more emissions and isn't the right way to go about it. I'm not going to insult the people protesting, breathe in the city centre air and it doesn't feel clean. You know how bad London feels sometimes. We shouldn't go that way.

1 day into it, my opinion is starting to change. Apparently this was a planned protest, I suspect those at the coucil wanted an angry reaction and telling Mancunians of this at late notice helps their cause.

However, many locals who see how the road is now are saying you know what... Deansgate is better as a pedestrianised area, and I think they might be right. People pointing the finger at Carney saying the council have shares in NCP and that no complaints were made by him when there is a roadblock for a parade for football/pride/athletics/manchester day etc. Nor does he blink when investors want to build these horrific high-rises but I suppose that's another conv. He can't even give a safe and nice green space in Piccadilly Gardens ffs.

Regent Road works will hopefully be done soon, but is there any point in keeping cars in the City Centre anymore, when we can have a redeveloped City Centre that might actually look nice starting with Deansgate??

Totally agree Manchester should be bold and ban cars in the city centre save for the dead of night.

The area should be pedestrianised. One of the things I can't stand about Manchester on a night out is the amount of tools in cars just driving about playing wank music. Don't get me wrong, I expect to see it generally and it doesn't really bother me but whilst out on the piss in town it's something that irritates me so my reasoning for it is nothing to do with the environment. It's a different type of emission coming from the vehicles that is harmful to your ears that bothers me.

It's the same problem in most towns and cities, some pimply tosser in a 1998 Corsa thinking he's cool
belting out ear splitting shite.
