Bernardo Silva tweet controversy

He compared his mate to a black cartoon character. I'm sure Mendy took it in the right context but here come the social justice crew...
What a load of shit . What’s the world coming to when you can’t have abit of banter between different races and nationalities. It’s different if it’s nasty and intentional but it’s a joke and he’s having s laugh . If people take offence fuck em

I mentioned this on the earlier thread that got pulled..On an episode of Corrie a couple of years ago an Asian character called a white female character ‘white trash’..now that is racist and given the recent cases of child grooming by groups of Asian men also an indication of how these groups treat young white girls. How was this not deemed racist at the time? Where were all these politically correct arseholes then?

I hate to break this to you but maybe, just maybe, it’s because Coronation Street isn’t real and the person who played the character was, ahem, just acting? I mean, was Helen Worth ever pulled up when her character Gail Tilsley made homophobic comments towards Todd Grimshaw after he made a pass at her son?

Don't know if it's been brought up but let's talk Sergio, or "Kun" Aguero, Kun is the name of a Japanese cartoon character who Sergios' Grandad said he had look of when he was little. So Sergios' Grandad is a racist, or maybe its just a bit of fun between Grandad and Grandson.

This is all getting confusing.

Is the “You signed Phil Jones, we signed Kun Aguero” a racist chant? I might have to report it to Kick it Out.

Is comparing Rooney to Shrek still acceptable, or will Shrek take offence?

Because he never thought for a moment people would be offended, like it or not this is how the kids talk to each other,FOC's like me don't really get twitter but that is how everyone communicates

Well all I can say is that I’m on Twitter and I don’t communicate like that, nor do any of the 100s I follow, or whose tweets I see. Lame to do it publicly imho, no need, that’s all.

Football offends me. What about those poor souls without a foot, it’s like we’re hammering it down their throats. Just stop everything

Exactly!

Agenda-filled cliques who get funded to be outraged!!

P.S. You DO realize I was simply making a point that it is ridiculously easy to fall into the trap that is political correctness, simply by misusing (or sloppily using) a word here or there, right?!

Yes i did. and you did realise i am not a big fan of some of the people at "Kick it out"

Bernardo’s been a proper numpty here. There shouldn’t be an issue, it’s very clearly a light hearted jibe between friends with no racial intent at all but we live in a world now where somebody will always try and find something to be outraged by. They get given extensive media training, it would have been made very clear to them what would cause controversy and what to avoid like the plague, he’s dropped a bollock here. whether it should or shouldn’t be an issue is sadly irrelevant.

I wonder if the same amount of coverage would be given to this if it was a black player saying this to mendy?

You can't anything these days or have a joke.
It's all very sad.

No malice or racist intent by Bernardo, but he has been a little naive/stupid in tweeting this. Just hope there is no ban to follow.

Yes it probably should have been kept as a private joke amongst friends(Whatsapp?) but that's only because of the way things are theses days, which is wrong in itself to just accept it as the way it is. "He's stupid because people are mental, nosey, sanctimonious arseholes these days".

I suppose there is no privacy when you're that famous though. It's not right but it's one of the prices they pay for all that wealth and adulation they normally get.

Bernardo Silva is obviously not a racist, and clearly no offence was intended by his tweet (nor indeed was any taken by Mendy). It was pretty ill-advised to post it on social media though. A quick apology for any offence caused should help draw a line under it. The notion of a ban seems a bit far-fetched, and wishful thinking on behalf of rival fans. It’s hardly comparable to, say, the Suarez situation.

I'm offended by your post as I don't have a throat.
Precisely. Let’s shut everything down. Remove names, labels and gender. Have some automated canned responses and live our lives ensuring no one has to endure offence
