Bernardo Silva tweet controversy

Not sure you are aware how dictionaries work. There can be several definitions under one word, I used the first definition of the first link.

As I say, for a know-all, I am surprised you admit you weren't aware of that definition.

So lets get this clear.

You are now saying that there can be multiple definitions of racism and that you don't need to say you're of a superior race to be racist?

That's completely at odds with your original argument.

Has anyone yet explained how the tweet shows Bernardo believes his race is superior?

Are really going to pretend that you can't be racist unless you declare you think your own race is superior?

Why would I have to when the dictionary does it for me?

The dictionary doesn't do it for you, you don't need to believe your race is superior to be racist, and everyone fucking knows that already.

This was my IOS definition that came up and screen shot from my phone:

Try it for yourself if you have safari.

PS - editing after I have already quoted you is annoying as fuck.

Which is funny because you added this after I quoted you:

I'm fully aware the big dick thing is untrue from 20 years playing rugby and football.

Maybe that's my fault for replying too quickly but it's also funny because it implies that, from your own experience, the stereotype we were talking about is based on nothing other than skin colour.

But that's not the full definition is it?

The full definition says anything with racial discrimination or prejudice falls under the definition of racist.

So you don't need to believe your race is superior to be racist. Which we already knew, because it's obvious.

There's a definition and then an advert for a cinema. If you can't understand how I would read that that make the initial comment based on that definition then fine.

Having read several other definition since chatting with you, I am now fully aware that there are other definitions.

Still not sure which of "racial discrimination or prejudice" the tweet falls under though.

Ok. Fair enough.

We both agree Bernardo is not a racist, that's the most important thing at the end of the day.

You really need to be special to think this is same with Kun being nicknamed after some cartoon.

What constitutes a racial prejudice? I guess an opinion about some race(s) which takes the individuals representing the race(s) as inferior in some respect. If the opinion (prejudice) has no direct or indirect consequences in terms of superiority/inferiority, why is it supposed to be offensive?

For instance, to highlight the physical attributes of black players is perceived sometimes as offensive because this might indriectly imply that they lack in other attributes. Bernardo's foolishness is that he doesn't realise that his tweet invokes racial stereotypes with implications which might offend some people. But his intention is not to denigrade people of colour. So, it's about being daft in that situation and not about being racist. People make unintentional mistakes all the time. Even the smartest people make silly mistakes sometimes. Let's not go overboard though.

I agree that EDUCATION is a good thing, and that the “culture of football” is global in nature, and that everyone has to be mindful of what they say, do and post on social media.

Personally, if I was a player, I wouldn’t have ANY social media accounts. I’d be making millions from football and a few endorsements and I would leave the baying hounds in the echo chamber to themselves.

Clearly, Bernardo and Mendy have a long, strong, cordial relationship. Whether that should include what are deemed racist tropes, even if done out of ignorance of same, is a good point of discussion. I’m sure by now Bernardo is mortified, and it would be very good for him if Mendy came out with some message of support to help quell some of the groundswell of faux outrage.

Well, the best thing would be if Bernado did a Justin Trudeau.
