Most hated film genres

Let me add -- films that are musicals or based on musicals. No one breaks into fucking song at the drop of a hat, especially if the song is about a situation that is currently happening plot-wise. Cannot think of a single musical movie I can abide.

Monty Python's The Meaning of Life is a musical. So is The Blues Brothers. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has some cracking tunes in it, including this...

I think the Meaning of Life is terribly uneven -- far and away the worst of their films -- and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, frankly, sucks.

The Blues Brothers -- fair enough. But James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles as well as the BB band are musicians, not actors singing.

The best musical on film is South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. Maybe A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which is an actual musical.

Dislike

Superhero/romantic shit/musicals/ anything set in the future/horror

Like

Action/drama/War and some comedy films.

Also partial to the odd international film

I don't hate any film genre if it's done well. But I think there are a few genres that are just churning out dirge at a higher rate than ever. I think there's a lack of great actions films nowadays. I think the superhero genre is so oversaturated at this point that I'd not notice if a decent one did come out (I haven't trusted reviews since the first Avengers film was universally praised). And also American comedy is going through a lull at the moment. How Adam Sandler is still making films is beyond me, and I've never got Will Ferrell. In fact, the trend of Saturday Night Live people making comedy films seems to be one of the issues, because they all end up being the same style of film. I really enjoyed this video criticising the current crop of American comedy films as just filmed improv, with very little thought put into anything other than the dialogue:

I cannot actually hate any genre as there will always be some films in each that transcends the avereageness of the rest and be top class.

Superhero films. They’re all the same, they’ve all got shit scripts and they’re all boring!

Musicals. How do they all know the words and the tune to the songs?

Yank comedies. They’ve become very very poor!

Modern cartoony type ones. The Pixar stuff. They’re all the same. All got the same recurring characters with the same humour and same daftness, just animated as a different guides to suit the film.

You can't beat Talking Pictures on Sky 328 or Freeview 81.

Just watched "This Happy Breed". Takes me back.
