Regardless of how you perceive Liverpool or the Club World Cup, they earned the right to be there by winning the Champions League. They should be able to participate in that competition without too many obstacles. Suggesting they play Friday, Monday, then fly out Tuesday to Qatar and play Wednesday is ridiculous. Unfortunately there isn't much leeway in England due to the 2 domestic cup competitions, so whatever happens, they will have some pretty dire scheduling.

Genuine question, could they have opted not to play the world club cup or whatever it is and if we were in the same position would we want the club to take part.

The world club cup is fifa's club cash cow, the only thing they have after world international tournaments, Klopp comes across that it's a privilege to be invited, and that they are representing the premier league, England, the UK and Europe, and they couldn't say no. In other words, they could have, but it wouldn't have gone down well.

The bigger picture is, this competition was planned to include the winners of the champions league (who ever it was) before the champions league final was played. Moaning about it now is all a bit too late, they knew they had premier league games, they knew they would be in the Champions league, they knew which cups they were in, they knew if they stayed in the EFL cup to the quarter finals it would be a clash with other games, why not bring it up sooner and ask that a provision is made.

They have 35 players registed with the premier league, plus other EDS and under 21 players. They should just bloody well get on with it, but because they are the media darlings, it will be poor successful Liverpool, they must be looked after.

We know that wouldn't have been the case if it was us.

I think it's fairly apparent that Klopp doesn't care too much for the domestic cups. He wasn't going to try to lose but the team he put out against Arsenal was pretty weak. 11 changes from the weekend. I read some posts demanding that he fined/punished for disrespecting the competition by fielding such a weakened team so there must be agreement on this.
Unfortunately Arsenal were even worse. It was a great match to watch for the neutral since both teams attacked the whole game and the defending was awful leading to plenty of goals and an exciting finish.
I say let Villa go through if a time can't be organised. Either that or give the kids another shot when the first team is in Qatar. I don't see much being done to accommodate Klopp.

so the game is scheduled w/c 16th, so usually played on Tuesday 17th or Wed 18th. To suggest they have to play it on either of those days when they play in Qatar on the 18th is moronic.

My view is that any manager should be able to manage his squad how he sees fit and should be allowed to get on with it.

Why City fans bring it up is because the fucking FA allowed the television companies to put our game away to Chelsea, in the FA Cup, 48 hours away from our first CL knockout game.

Pellegrini chose the CL and played the kids, after we’d had our request to move it declined, and the scumbag tabloid press went after us saying we disrespected the competition.

The same won’t be ever said about Liverpool, I can tell you that.

What Liverpool should do is play the academy against Villa and at least fulfil the fixture.

I thought all clubs had the same size squad of 25 why is the dippers smaller ?? I thought academy players could come through at any time and didnt count as part of the 25 .....

Plus I thought klopp plays the same 14 ever game.
