We couldn't cope last night as soon as Atalanta upped their intensity on man to man.

Top many crap out balls to players with their backs to the play, lazy returns, evidenced with that crap half touch from Gundo which led to the Bravo sending off.

Even before the red card, Bravo was forced to come racing out to head clear, there is just so much space in behind our defenders.

Sterling just can't be arsed getting across quickly enough to support Mendy when teams go wide.

I'm not sure what Pep can do to avoid us getting a tonking, as the current injuries expose our deficiencies to the maximum.

Personally, I hope we go for legs.

Three at the back.

............... Ed (hopefully).........

........ Walker.. Stones...Otamendi
Cancelo .. Fern...Foden..De Bruyne.. Mendy
.......................Sergio.... Sterling.....
Where has the high press gone????

Where has winning the ball back gone???

We are getting lazier & slower to react as every week passes.

Dino has to move back in HM we can't afford to leave Gundo there.

Fodan s a definate for me but Mendy offers Fuck all IMO, when he receives the ball I just think A. He gives it away B how long to get under controll but worse he is shit at picking up but injuries to Zinchenko doesn't help
No doubt about it we have lost the spark & need to react.
We need balls of steel & players who need to go to war with the manager, this week he finds out where this team finishes, a heavy defeat & it's a tough journey ahead.

Chelsea have the bit between there teeth & so do Liecester, we have to pick.it up & it starts against these horrible twats on Sunday.

I so fucking hope we pull it off & Sterling gets the winner.

Just noticed that the bookies have us as slight favourites, which considering our issues and the fact it is at Anfield is a bit of a surprise. Last season Pep had the upper hand in the matches with Liverpool. He kept Klopp guessing right up until the start of the match (remember the German walking right up to our warmup and studying our team?). I expect a similar clever twist with his approach but I make the dippers the favourites not us and expect a draw.

fernandinho on #LIVMCI: “We go there and try to win the game. The mentality is always try to win the game, as we did [against Atalanta] from the first minute."

"There's always a first time in life, no? We are searching for this first time to win at Anfield. I am confident we can go there and try to win the game. We are going to train and the medical staff are going to check him [Ederson]!"

Well the one stat that really shows their efficiency is the conversion of games into points even when they’ve played poorly.
They are regularly scoring late late goals, albeit being gifted them either by the opponent or the officials.
Point is they will play on until the 95th minute knowing all they have to do is get it into the box and then it’s a lottery.
We have to be on our best form, concentration and decisiveness from start to finish.

Listen, my post does come across as negative and it is I suppose, but I’m still hopeful that we will turn up for such a big game despite our injuries.
But that hopefulness doesn’t ease the dread.
Just the way it is.

Didn’t think you were being that negative. Was just surprised myself by how similar stats were. I agree, they are winning matches & that’s what counts. As I said I’d be more than happy with a point.

Lot of nerves on show here recently. It's at Anfield, fair do's, and we don't have a track record, but it is doable.
For all you peeps who are nervous of a crushing defeat, I suggest the following technique to help you out.
Get up, walk to the bathroom, look in the mirror, give yourself a big slap around the chops and say "man up you tit"!!!
Cos being the head honcho's is what these games are about. It's what we should live for.
Can't handle it? Then stalybridge Celtic are looking to bolster their crowds!!!

NO BERNARDO in any of them teams, yet when we beat them 2-1 at home he was outstanding
Ederson, Walker, Stones, Ota, Mendy, Kdb, Dihno, Foden(but he will pick Gundogan), Bernardo, Sterling, Kun...
You can swap Bernado for Ilkay. One or the other. I just want 5 mids with Wingbacks

How about this ??
......................bravo ....................
Walker .....stones ........mendy ....
Cancello .......................angelino...
.......kdb ............fern..................sterling .

...................bernardo......................
..................kun/ or jesus........
Keep ottamendi and gundogan out of this one to fast.

The media should be asking questions of Klopp and he should state in no uncertain terms that no liverpool fans should go anywhere near the team coach. Let’s see if they all have the bottle (excuse the pun) to call out the vermin for what they are.

If the secnes are similar to the last coach attack , then we have every right to turn the bus around and head back down the M62 and let the Premier league sort it out. When the game is rearranged make them play it behind closed doors , Candlelighters F.C. and their feral support need to be taught a lesson

not reading 74 pages so these two things may have been stated before.
If Bernardo is suspended can't we appeal it meaning he can play until that's heard?
Every City fan going to the game should dress up like James Bond or some other spy thing.

..................GK...………………….
…………Walker Ferna Stones
Cancelo……………………………..Mendy
………………..Gundo…………………..
……….KDB...………..Foden………..
…………...Sergio Sterling...……...

That'll do for me.
Gotta say, that'd be interesting.

Too right. The Champions of England deserve Respect.

I can see the absolute worst situation unfolding - being desperate and playing an injured Ederson. I'm sure this happened last year and he was terrible but I can't for the life of me remember the game.
Lets try and concentrate on Positive memories...i was there when we last won at Anfield..Anelka two goals, shmeical pulled off a world class save in front of the kop,SWP played a blinder..a fully deserved 2-1 victory..it was the only time in my 30 years following City home and away id seen us win at Anfield
We d bin on the piss from 10.30am sat morning at Ma Egertons next to Lime street station, moved on to Dixie Deans across the road for midday ..few more boozers then taxis to the ground, more beer at the Elm Tree... Bouncing atmosphere in the away end ..Keegan had come to attack, and we smelled blood..
After the match back on the piss down all the old beatles pubs on Matthew street...Fantastic day,amd the train home was raucous...
Thats the sort of memory we want going into this game.City winning at Anfield.; )

Me too.

City fans seem to forget that Man Utd should have beaten them, and I've lost count of the number of times we could say that. Last week, they sneaked past Villa. Week before that Spurs. City go there with some problems, but we're well capable of scoring first, and should we do that, they could collapse. The pressure is on Liverpool. They have to beat us whilst we are missing players, and if they don't they know we will get stronger as players return.
I can't wait either. We are well capable of beating them even with the weakest eleven of our regulars playing and we won't have to do that.
The only thing I'm wondering is can we overcome the two penalties they are going to get.

Our issue with "finishing" seems to haunt us unless there is something different about the makeup of the squad, the tactics, etc. or something different about a side that creates as many "chances" as we do than those that create less?

Our xG compared to goals scored was significantly worse than Liverpool's last season, despite us scoring more goals than xG.

Liverpool, over the past 4 seasons under Klopp has consistently scored more goals than xG where as other than the Centurions season we have been nowhere near their rate. That seems to be a key difference as the trend has not just continued but it's worsened.

Last season, Pep set up the side to not lose. I don’t think anything will have changed for this year. I expect Stones and Otamendi as CBs and Fernandinho sitting in front of them, with Gundogan alongside him with a temporary license to get forward if possible.

I’ve seen quite a few people putting a back 3/5 in, with Walker playing right side in a 3 (Cancelo and Mendy playing wing backs). I think the easier set up is Fernandinho sliding in and out of a 3/5 as needed, with Bernardo/Mahrez, Gundogan, KDB and Sterling collapsing into a 5-4-1 defensively, with Aguero as the outlet.

Clearly, the damage Liverpool impose on other teams is the inside movement of their front 3 as their FBs get down the line. What is somewhat unique is that even when the LB bombs on, the RB also bombs on as a late arriving RW at the far post, and vice versa. This can dramatically overload a team, as most of them employ an increasingly narrow defence as they backpedal towards their own goal, and simply don’t have enough defenders to cope...especially with the lazy wingers on defence most teams “enjoy.”

As Pep pointed out in the Amazon documentary last season, the channels between the CBs and FBs is where they liked to penetrate, but that is so last season. Today, they prefer to bring their frontline inside and overload the box, allowing their FBs to get down the line and whip in a ball for someone (anyone) to get on the end of it. With this set up, they have 3 in the box between the lines (18 yd box) sniffing out a touch, plus a late arriving back post FB looking to either knock a ball back into the box or have a crack at goal (a la Walker the other day), and another 3 midfielders surrounding the edge of the box.

In short, the Liverpool 4-3-3 becomes a 2-3-5 and simply overloads teams and literally stops them getting out. United did this for years in the last 15 minutes of games when they were either level or behind. City, on the other hand, like to play the same 4-3-3, but we transition into a 2-5-3 on the attack, because we need a little space to play the cuter, more exacting football that creates “the perfect opening.” Against some teams, this has proven to be our undoing. Whereas Liverpool attempt to use “shock and awe,” we usually try to use “surgical precision,” until we run out of patience and simply start pumping balls into the box for our 5’8” average strike force!

Liverpool are a team that doesn’t suit us. They harry too much. They bomb forward in possession. They press the box from dead balls. They are City...albeit with less finesse but more power. They attempt to use their strength and speed to blunt finesse like ours and simply overpower most teams. We have shown ourselves to be susceptible to that and need to be at our best to overcome it against Liverpool. When the opponent is good at it...even teams who are well down the League...we have struggled a bit, because their scrappy, less talented players are willing to put in a hard shift. We faced this against Norwich, and Wolves are ALWAYS set up this way, which is why they have managed to relatively successfully blunt us multiple times now.

Like almost everyone else, I look forward to this game with anxious anticipation. For me, which City shows up, and which Liverpool shows up, determines the outcome. If both teams are at their best, City win. Alas, it is eons since City played their best, or anywhere close, at Klanfield, although our more defensive set up last season was successful in blunting them, while giving us the opportunity to win the game at the last minute. That penalty miss eventually caused the season to unfold differently than it should have done, with an eventual 1 point gap instead of the potential 4 point gap that would have made the Brighton game a coronation celebration from start to finish.

This season the match is the proverbial six-pointer at a time in the season where both teams have games coming fast and furious. 9 points gives Liverpool a serious cushion, some of which they may need between now and the end of January. However, 3 points puts the cat amongst the pigeons, and would be a statement that could not be ignored by anyone. Liverpool have created a fortress at Klanfield, and are unbeaten anywhere so far this season. Having City turn that upside down on their home patch would be exactly what we need...and the PL needs... to put this season back on a knife edge.

Hopefully, PGMOL thinks so, too, because we all feel like it is inevitable the ref (Oliver!) will have significant say on the outcome...especially in and around the box! I expect the cards to be flying from the outset to help him keep a lid on it, but he may set himself up for a big decision or two later in the game. As I said, it is almost inevitable he will have an effect on the game, which is too bad.

This game is almost as important as the Etihad fixture last season...maybe more so???

You have to love this game.

COME ON, CITY!!!

I doubt we would be playing 3 at the back, most likely a 4-1-4-1 formation with Dino playing in front of cbs.

Ederson
Walker
Stones
Otem
Mendy
Dino
Gundogan
Debruyne
Mahrez
Sterling
Aguero

1 - 3 City :)
