Sometimes. Not always. If a Govt is elected on a major policy it has five years to implement it. If it can’t it doesn’t get to say ‘hang in a minute can we have a year or two extra as it turned more difficult that we thought’. If they want more time they have to submit themselves and their progress to a fresh vote.

So we can ignore promises from Labour for a 32 hour week within 10 years and free broadband by 2030 etc yes?

Seriously - if everyone who voted Remain could get past this "we voted once for this stupid idea; we must abide by the people's choice" then Remain would clearly win a new referendum.

Also, seriously, why on earth should they? All sides said in 2016 this is a one off vote and the result WILL be implemented. We had the vote, the result is what it is, and we must get on with it. It's a simple as that, it really is.

And speaking as someone who voted against Leaving and who can see the damage it will do, I also now see there's lots of people like me who also voted for Remain who also think we have to get on with it.

There was never even a majority in the HoC for a second referendum. So I don't think it is a foregone conclusion at all that Remain would win Ref2.

Unless you think they are going to get a working majority, yes. If they don’t then they won’t be able to deliver it even if they depend on other parties to form a government you can still ignore them.

Remain would probably win if the two options are "Ultimate BRINO" and "Remain" because Leave voters wouldn't vote because the vast majority want neither option - and what a mess that would leave our country in.
This is actually the reason why Labour are polling so badly because the "cretinous" Leavers have spotted the flaw in Labour's argument.

Had an interesting conversation with my older brother yesterday, before I headed to the game. He’s always been much more right-wing than the other siblings (and my folks) having voted Tory for most of his life and UKIP relatively recently. He declared he’s voting Labour, much to my (and everyone else’s) astonishment. Cited the number of food banks and homelessness and that he felt capitalism has gone too far. I agree with him on that, but still won’t be voting Labour. I think Corbyn is more of a liability than he does.

I think a lot of the previous rules that related to voting patterns will be thrown out of the window on 12th December.

Perhaps.

Depends who is PM. If Boris wins a majority then the debate is irrelevant - we are not having Ref2.

If Trotsky ends up in No. 10 then I think you are right. He would negotiate pure BRINO with FoM, CU and no free trade deals. Waste of time.

However if Johnson does not get a majority, then he will surely still head the largest party and as incumbent, gets first shot at forming a Government. IMO he would quite rightly do absolutely anything other than see Trotsky in No. 10, so would cut a deal with the Lib Dems. Maybe not a formal pact as in what Clegg did - the Lib Dems are too burned by that experience. But an agreement that they would support a Queens speech in return for Ref2 and other favours.

So we'd have Johnson's deal Vs Remain on the ballot paper. That could be a close vote

I can see the logic of that except if Johnson has a minority government how will his new more hardline brexit mps and existing ERG take that, and how would Johnson’s self preservation take it, he may think let the other parties take the brexit flak and build his base in opposition as it’s unlikely a hung parliament would last that long.

Just listening to that Jeth Phillipth on telly, this 'Self Identification' thingy is going to get a sympathetic ear apparently.
Toddle off to the polling station dressed in full Sioux Indian attire, identify yourself as 'Spotted Wolf', scrawl
your X next to labour, and Sitting Bull's your uncle.

Indeed, especially with people like me to convince to vote Remain again. I voted Remain, even though I was a Eurosceptic mainly because I knew what would happen afterwards.
That said, democracy is the most important thing for any nation and to disregard any vote is unacceptable under ANY circumstances.

Incidently, May's deal was the half way house between Brexit and Remain. We would leave, be independent in name but once the trade deal was in place be in a position to easily rejoin in the future if the people willed it. Remainers and the Labour Party threw this option out. As a result you get the current Tory/ERG position, the Brexit Party and a radicalised Leave vote that may well destroy the Labour party on the 12th December.
