The media trying to portray this world club trophy as a major achievement,ffs it’s like a glamourised pre season friendly tournament only played in December,although I would say the American owner would see this as far more prestigious than the champions league or premier league,as it has the word world champions on it,a bit like the Super Bowl or World Series baseball,although to be fair there was teams in it from more than one country,unlike Super Bowl or baseball ..

Everyone had given up on the title last season and then 2019 began...
3rd January defeat to City
(7th January defeat to Wolves in the FA Cup)
30th January drew with Leicester
4th February drew with West Ham
(19th February drew with Bayern in the CL)
24th February drew with United
3rd March drew with Everton

They actually started 2019 with 7 non-wins from their first 11 games of the year in all competitions.

I'm not sure I fully share it but I for one certainly appreciate your optimism :-)

Just winners of the various continental cup competitions.

The first game in the competition was between a Qatari team, and a team from New Caledonia (I'll let you look it up).

Liverpool have played 2 games in it, and haven't been convincing in either, needing an injury time, and an extra time winner.

We discount the charity shield because it's a 2 team pre-season opener. This aberration of a trophy only has 4 teams in it from the start and the European representative should win it every time.

The thread that involved throwing tennis balls on the pitch in protest was cringey, booing the anthem is cringey. Throwing our toys out the pram when losing a derby and behaving like animals was cringey. Other fans being cringey doesn’t change that we are the same now. You can have an opinion on levels of cringe but it doesn’t change where we are at. We’ve lost a lot of what we had about us before. Be that just modern football or not adapting to new found success.

Yes, Monterrey are 8th in the world class Mexican league, Flamengo are top in the world class Brasilian league, Al Sadd SC are 5th in the world class Qatar Stars League, Al Hilal are 5th in the world class Saudi Pro League, Espérance Sportive de Tunis are 7th in the Tunisian Ligue Professionalle 1 and Hienghène Sport are first in the world class New Caledonia Super League.

Let me repeat that list of teams again ...

Monterrey
Flamengo
Al Sadd SC
Al Hilal
Espérance Sportive de Tunis
Hienghène Sport

Now, prior to me typing that, aside from Flamengo, has anyone even heard of the other teams?

Also, how can you be crowned champions of the world having played in a competition that didn't include teams from the US, Japan, China, India, Canada, Australia etc.

I would be utterly and cringe-worthily embarrassed if our club boasted about being world champions having basically beaten Monterrey and Flamengo.

I’ve been called Tom twice now but I am unsure as to why. Is this like a Clarkie thing? I take it you’re in the being a cringey fan camp Karen? I’d rather be in the one that laughs at ourselves in adversity. Takes a derby defeat on the chin without resorting to thuggery. What I was originally trying to get at is how anything Liverpool related, the jokes in their hundreds come in about them starting petitions etc. Everything I see from us nowadays is how we can protest against something else, quite ironic. It’s going off topic for the Liverpool thread anyway. Ultimately if we count the community shield as a trophy, we sadly have to do the same for the club World Cup. They’re still unbearable bastards though. ;)

Not you personally, city in general. Fourmidables. I don’t see what they’ve just won as anything amazing, especially as you say taking into account the opposition also. I just fear we are moulding into everything we hate about them and also united. I’m not downplaying their achievements, mainly because I hope it’s us participating in that tournament next year :)

The Champions of South America are quite a decent team. They’re a Brazilian team who beat the Argentinian champions in the final to qualify for the World Club Championship.

Just because you and others on this thread don’t look beyond the Premier League, it doesn’t make a competition irrelevant.
