The Labour Party

Watching the turmoil in the Labour Party is on a level with City being 16 points ahead in the league with 6 games of the season left (I wish).

It is a case of how badly they will disintegrate and when so I can watch and comment with amused detachment.

Yeah, Labour members hate America, I have fond memories of singing the internationale trashing the toilets at Disneyworld.

Idiot.
Hmmmm - maybe not the membership, but the party leadership ....?

During the last 12 months or so and particularly in the lead up to the GE - which party campaigned on demonising trade with America and generally all things America?

Perhaps calling the poster an idiot was unwarranted?

I'm Donald Trump

And I approve this lie.

Of course you do not think so.

I was giving an example of the good on the right, of course there are a lot that are greedy.

If even Wikipedia nails it you've no excuse....

Right-wing politics holds that certain social orders and hierarchies are inevitable, natural, normal, or desirable,[1][2][3] typically supporting this position on the basis of natural law, economics, or tradition.[4]:p. 693, 721[5][6][7][8][9] Hierarchy and inequality may be viewed as natural results of traditional social differences[10][11] or the competition in market economies.[12][13] The term right-wing can generally refer to "the conservative or reactionary section of a political party or system".[14]

That just shows how naive you are to use Wikipedia and characterise so much, using such a basic definition.

Scratch below the surface, beyond basic definitions...

One-nation conservatism, also known as one-nationism or Tory democracy, is a paternalistic form of British political conservatism. It advocates the preservation of established institutions and traditional principles within a political democracy, in combination with social and economicprogrammes designed to benefit the ordinary person.[1] According to this political philosophy, society should be allowed to develop in an organic way, rather than being engineered. It argues that members of society have obligations towards each other and particularly emphasises paternalism, meaning that those who are privileged and wealthy pass on their benefits.[2] It argues that this elite should work to reconcile the interests of all classes, labour as well as management, instead of identifying the good of society solely with the interests of the business class.[note 1]

I suppose I should be grateful you didn't post the definition of compassionate conservative.

No need mate. Johnson is going to be an excellent PM - just watch.

Minimum wage getting it's biggest increase ever in April. Economy surging on the back of renewed confidence. Massive increases in NHS resources. Good times ahead!

Some of that could be offset by the impact of Brexit so it will be interesting how he and the Tories navigate us through that.

If any negative impact turns out to be minimal though, and he plays a blinder in other areas then Johnson could be in the bizarre position of making the Tories the true party of many of the working class who shunned Labour and gave him their vote. If he can improve the lot of at least some of those voters then it may be many years before Labour have a sniff of getting back in.

That is what they voted for him to do. Boris has the mandate now to deliver the best possible Brexit and he will be fully accountable for it. If he stuffs up then he will be kicked out in 5 years.

Arguably a vote for Corbyn would of made many poorer too. The same people on here saying GDP will go down by 2.726% after Brexit are the same people advocating £500bn of public spending and vast increases in national debt.

At the end of the day people don't vote for facts or common sense, we vote for what we want.

A perfect Dumb & Dumber leader and deputy leader would be Long-Bailey & Burgon.

The oh so thick Long-Bailey teamed up with Mr Bombastic Burgon would struggle to get 10% support I reckon.

If Long Bailey wins then the Labour Party is finished. I’d expect a regroup on the centre left and a huge number of defections. Corbynism might be a mass movement but it’s unelectable. To be honest the split between trade unionism and politics on the left is long overdue in the UK. The unions have not represented the interests of the poorest in society for many years.
