January defenders

Zinchenko should either leave or be a rotation in midfield. I'm amazed we dont try him in the dm position. Seems to have all the qualities needed apart from height but hes a scrapper. We cant afford to have gundogan and zinchenko playing out of position. Either 1 should be dedicated position or move on. Cancelo was a crazy buy for us because frimpong who moved to celtic could easily of backed up Walker.
While Cancel was expensive, it's hard not to see he has an effect on Walker's play.

I think he'll be a net positive, so long as he doesn't get pissed and want out early. We will need him at some point. And I believe he'll shine with a string of games

If we’re not on that, we’re idiots. Him and Werner together would be gettable for the price of Ake, and would be top additions to where we need strengthening.

Upamecano and Laporte could be our fixed CB pairing for the next 5 years. Apparently he’s an absolute physical monster, and not too shabby playing out from the back.

If they’re willing to sell for £40/50 because of the contract situation, and Werner has a £30mil release clause, throw them £90/100mil total as a goodwill gesture/Fuck Bayern Munich statement.

RB Leipzig put a lot of faith in youngsters, get a good relationship with them now and start loaning our brightest prospects to them. Could pay for itself very quickly.
Genuinely how often have you seen Upamecano play 90 minutes? Look at the sheer size of the man, he's far too big and bulky physically to play in a high line, there's no way a man of that size he has the agility or acceleration over short distances we need in that position. If he somehow miraculously does, he's as good as guaranteed knee injuries (e.g. Micah, Kompany) long term.

Could say the same about VVD, no? Just Youtube compilations, reports etc so I’m no expert, but he’s been a solid part of arguably the best defence in Germany, is young, gettable and has the physicality to work in the PL. And he is rapid.

Van Dijk is also a big unit.

Van Dijk only has to concentrate on runs in behind because he's got three defensively minded midfielders in front of him, he's not constantly twisting and turning. Our defenders are far more athletically exposed purely down to our high risk/high reward style of play. VVD is also pretty slender in comparison to Upamecano, who is more Wes Morgan than John Stones size wise.

Van Dijk is 14kg heavier than Upamecano (Google, don’t sue me if wrong).

Agreed, which is why we need serious recovery pace. It seems this kid has it. Pep said a CB in his team is one of the hardest roles in the world, and I can see why. But he looks like he has the rare mix of pace, power and technical ability.

60m is a lot to pay for a player just to give our present RB a kick up the arse.

At this moment in time Cancelo has been a terrible signing.

Upamecano is much faster than any of our current CB's though

Different sources show different information, it's impossible to know definitively. Whoscored for example shows the difference between thm as 3kg, however VVD is also 3" inches taller. For me it's the body shape, Upamecano in comparison to VVD looks like Adama Traore and Peter Crouch (that's an exaggerated piss take before anyone reacts).

I agree we need a pace and power in a centre back but it needs to be tempered with agility to twist and turn quickly. Straight line pace and power is easy to find, agility is a completely different ball game. I think we need someone more like a Marquinos at PSG.

Wow 25 only...seems like he been around forever. Still think we won't sign anyone in Jan unless Laporte has an injury setback

Closer to 26 but agree it’s hard to believe he’s still so young. Ignore links to him however- apart from the difficulty to actually leave PSG, his agent regularly links him away to get better terms from the Qataris

Talking to a Celtic fan last night. Says Frimpong is doing really well.

Why do people keep repeating this Cancelo propaganda? We didn't spend 60m on him. It a swap deal. The only reason there is a 60m figure attached to the deal is because Juve needed to recognize it all up front for accounting purposes and the media's run with it to make us look bad or whatever. It cost us ~30m out of pocket.

It was a deal that is the best part of 60m, so your saying Danilo was worthless?

Regardless as of January 2020, a terrible signing, lets hope he proves his worth very soon.

Given that the PL title is pretty much done and we just have the cup's to worry about I don't see strengthening at this point in the season is a huge priority.

IF
we do any business in the transfer market in January it will be pretty quick. I think any deals will have been done already, and the paperwork will just be a formality.

No, Danilo isn't worthless, but we got value back in return. You can't count Danilo's value without counting Cancelo so you just look at net outlay. Player 1 + 30m for Player 2 = 30m net.

Still not looking like a particularly great transfer at the moment, but a long way to go.

I don't agree with your type of number crunching.

We gave away a very good player and 30 million and so far have no return, not a good deal to me.
