Don't even know how to rate his performance. Offensively non-existent. Aimless passing back and forth btw him, Bernardo, and Sterling. No through balls, cross, or a shot that challenges the GKer.

Defends better than Mendy/Angelino but without David Silva that left hand side is game play turns into "Hope and Pray" Sterling creates something out of nothing.

Otters defends fairly well - trouble is... he has no pace. Compounding this is that our opponents realize that the best way to score against us is to lob balls over the top of our high line.

Thus, unless our opposition is totally clueless on how best to attack us - or unless they're so terrible that we score at will - then Otters at CB is a big problem for us - the opposition will simply start a fast forward and make him sit next to Otters - and then they'll lob a long ball over our high line on Otter's side every time they gain possession.

There is a simple fix for this. We play a high line with a press. If the defender on the ball is being pressured he can't easily lob the ball into wherever he wants. So the attempt at lobbing the ball becomes very hard. Also, Eddie generally hands out around the to of his 18 yard box so a ball knocked over our defense heading towards our goal is easier for our sweeper keeper to pick up.

Ota' and Dihno ( who also has the same problem albeit without the criticism) need to know to drop off if there is no pressure on the ball.

This should be standard.

Watched the game again and thought he did well in the sense of being far more solid than anyone else lately. Our full back defending hasn't been good and is one of the main reasons why we've dropped points.
He doesn't get too much forward as that's a problem but a definite starter tomorrow in Pep's eyes I'd venture to say .

Thought he was largely very good playing yet another new role in this team. Left of a back three but charged with joining the midfield when in possession. Took up great positions, used the ball well and of course responsible for the opener.

I’m wondering if he was instructed to shoot from distance often. It could be a tactical decision. If we have a goal threat from someone nominally playing centre-back that requires an opponent to come out and close him down, that frees up space for someone else. Could be another subtle tweak in Pep’s battle against the parked bus

Think it would be best to sell him IF Mendy can stay fit now long. He takes up foreign spot, I don't think he is that good to be taking up foreign spot. I mean cant even make the bench now.

If he was HG player then would be fine squad player, but there are only 17 foreign spots which should be used to maximum effect IMO.

Didn't Pep once say also that we can't attack the way we want to with Zinchenko as well.

Where's Zinchenko gone?

Not even in the squad for the past 3 games.

When you look at that bench though its understandable. Not sure where he gets in, which is a tough break for him. Garcia was excellent...and now even he can't get on it.

The change to a back 3 kind of did it for him. If we’re playing our front 3 much narrower, Zinchenko is really not a good option in such a set up. Mendy was then able to get some good performances in and is now in a position to get the nod over Zinchenko even in a back 4.

He played as LCB in a back 3 just 10 days ago, this hybrid fullback/centerback position actually suits him quite well

Why pick Mendy over Zinch, the Zinch can use both feet, has a footballing brain and relatively stay's fit.
Pretty simple. Zinchenko is a good player, but when Mendy is fit and firing he's one of the best fullbacks in the world. And given that we're probably stuck with Mendy, we have no choice but to try and get him fit and firing.

The bench is strong as pointed out earlier, but also where he replaces is weird with the new systems in the team.

He can't replace Mendy anymore because we now use our LB to go wide, only Angelino is capable.

He doesn't play David or Kevin's role quite like them and is more defensive, so unless we play with a double pivot he cannot rotate in there.

The only other player to replace is Rodri as a single pivot, but Pep uses Gundogan there more (and he is really good at it).

He can played inverted LB, double pivot, or LCB in a back 3 from what I've seen. I think he plays (or makes the bench) if we use systems that use those more like 3-4-3.
