Single malt whisky

nice list, I currently have the Bowmore 15YO and the Balvenie 14YO Caribbean Cask both of which are very good, haven't tried the other distilleries but I did stay for a week a couple of years back about a mile from the Abelour distillery and couldn't get on a tour as they were all booked up :/

Was literally looking at the Balvennie carribean cask the other day, thought of getting it. Is it good?

Tullibardine 20Y old.

Got my old man a bottle for Christmas as I usually do. First time I've gone for this.. His exacts words when sampling one was "liquid gold that lad, beautiful".

Christ I don’t know. Was the Christmas before the one just gone.
Think it was a twelve year old.
Got me a gift set of three, of which the Speyside was definitely the nicest.

I would normally be more into Irish Whiskey as I’m not a huge fan of the peaty taste, but I’ve had a few Scotch which were really good. Usually over in England at my brother in law’s.
He had Old Cardu which is a Speyside I believe and I seem to remember a Glenmorangie a good number of years ago.
I treated myself to a Chivas Regal in Barcelona a few years back. That’s a Speyside I believe but don’t think it’s single malt. Was really good anyway.

I'm not into peaty or smokey malts myself either.

My hands-down favourite is a glendronach 12. Such an underrated whisky. usually well priced too, recommend it to anyone.

Love a tobermory 10 (now replaced by the 12, almost preferred it lighter). it is west coast, but isn't at all a typical western malt.

Arran do really good malts too, 10 & 14 both lovely. their wine cask finishes are pretty special as well.

Glenfarchlas are worth a try. the 10 is really drinkable, light, with zero burn. the 15 is a bit mire syrupy and sweeter.

Tried the welsh one, it is pretty good, agree.

The peaty whisky are nearly all Islay whiskys. Avoid Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Kilchoman, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, Bruichladdich, Bowmore and Ardbeg. If you concentrate on Speyside like you cant go wrong. A list of some of the more popular Speysides would be: Glenlivet, Cardhu, Balvennie, Aberlour, Glenfarclas, Macallan, Glenfiddich, Strathisla.

Im not a whisky drinker ..... but I have a bottle of Glen Garioch for sale .... it was given to me as a leaving gift in 1996 its 8 year matured and been kept in its box at the back of a cupboard.

It's been valued at between £60 and £90 at auction but I would have to pay for transport and auction costs.

Prepared to let it go for £45 if anyones interested PM me.

You are the first person to mention Glenfarclas.
The cask strength 105 is expensive but a tremendous experience taste wise.
This and Glenlivet are my personal favourites.

Although Caol Ila and Bruichladdich are really nice, and very mildly peated.

I enjoyed it, will be replacing it when it's gone I think. The initial rum hit was very strong, perhaps too strong, but that has faded as I've gone down the bottle

My mate threw up in his shoe after we had a bit of a session on Bunnahabian.

He got up late for work, and still p*ssed. In rushing to get dressed he put his shoes on without realising one of them was full of chunks.
That’s more your mate’s problem, than Bunnahabian’s, to be fair. ;-)

I would definitely recommend Doublewood 12Y — much more fine-tuned but still having the great oak and sherry oak flavours.

I like it, it is good. The rum finish one was more for something a bit different. And i do like rum. Payday still a bit away, the sway to try it will prob pass by then.

Just made an impulse buy from Asda. A bottle of Tamnavulin single malt. £20. £12 off. No idea what to expect being a novice with single malts and Whisky in general. This one is from Speyside.
