Irish Current Affairs

According to FG we were going to have tax cuts for the better off. FF seem to think we've forgotten the crash.
As well as that, in 2016 the country basically voted to oust FG and FF.
FF we’re in charge pre 2011 and had basically fucked the country and were decimated in 2011.
They hadn’t been forgiven in 2016 and FG fell from a high of 76 seats to 50 in 2016.
The country voted for an alternative, so what did they do. FF supported a minority FG government to keep the left out. Brexit was the excuse.

This time around SF for better or worse cannot be ignored.
And as Aguero has said, if it goes to another election it is likely to get worse for FF and FG.

why not? They seem to be the left wing alternative as the two "main" parties seem to look to "out right wing" each other - thats the message I seem to get from Irish posters on here.
I believe 'two cheeks of the same arse' is the phrase that was used.
If it hadn't been Sinn Fein it would have been another left wing party, they were just in the right position. 10 years ago it would have been Labour, in 10 years time it could well have been the Social Democrats or People Before Profit.

That name shouldn't appear on a ballot paper to be honest, I don't care how left or right wing they are.

Maximum FF+FG can get is 77 seats which is short of a coalition, doesn't mean they can't get 3 like minded independents in but it would be a very fragile alliance. Shinners are in imo.

It resonated particularly well with the younger generation. They ran a very good social media campaign which the other two dinosaurs didn’t exploit.
For those either jovially or perhaps seriously suggesting that this is some sort of IRA sympathising vote, you are way wide of the mark.
The issues down south were social.
Look at it more like austerity being rejected.
The economy bounced back but it didn’t find it’s way into worker’s pay packets.
The prospects of the younger generation owning their own homes were remote. Rent is sky high. Vulture funds buying up developments by the block.
Health services totally overstretched to breaking point.

The younger generation don’t know SF’s history and don’t care.

There is a big pressure going to come on SF and Mary Lou now, that they don’t piss this advantage away.

Haven’t a clue what it’ll mean to the country in the end.

Not having that mate they might not care which the result shows that plenty don't but don't know their history? Come on really

They are who they are.
Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael both have histories born out of the civil war over here that came about as a result of partitioning this country despite home rule having been passed by a British government.

How far fo you want to go back.

Listen I didn’t vote for them, but they have as much right to be on the ballot as any of the rest of them.

They won’t get far down south on a purely republican ticket. They will have to step up to the plate and prove they are in the 21st century.

This bubble will burst very quickly if they don’t perform.
