I have to say this even though I expect lots of flak :)

What we are guilty of is gross negligence by getting caught. Club officials have been amateurish in the extreme by allowing highly confidential mails to be hacked and to be honest if we were reading them from another club we would be getting stuck into them.

Have the club used various means to bypass the effects of FFP after the first sanctions? Highly likely in my view and the mails pretty much confirm this. Conn is right (unfortunately) in his Guardian article that the club has had the opportunity to provide the full email chains to refute them and presumably they havent done so. We are relying on the defence that the mails were illegally obtained so cant be used as evidence.

This defence might be enough...I doubt it though.
Agee with a lot of that Remember though that when investigative committee took it to the chamber they did so at haste due to the 5 year limit running out, the club claimed that they hadn’t considered the 200 page document submitted to prove their innocence

We will UEFA have already shown their incompetence by leaking information something that City warned them about but they continued articles in the media in the past 2 days have shown that Simeon Stone tweeted that he was told by a senior football executive that the noose around city neck was tightening He means David Gill who is a UEFA official all this would have been noted by the club and their legal reps

Didn't the CAS spokesman say City could not prove the leaks did not come after a decision had been made ?

Ominous.

City will surely come out swinging now, and it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out in the CAS. The punishment seems absurdly harsh and I’d be surprised if it was upheld. Even a reduced punishment (e.g. a one year ban) would still be extremely damaging though. A fascinating few months ahead, with a lot on the line for both parties.

These comments are also representative of an incomplete understanding of the financial implications of such action, especially in the context of FFP, which is partly why UEFA have taken this action. They want to create a feedback loop of destruction for the club.

And the club know this, hence our challenge with CAS that is attempting to expose the corruption in UEFA, not just the investigative process. I wouldn’t be surprised if the club now challenge FFP itself in the courts as an unlawful restriction on trade and business operations, as it is clear now that UEFA will continue to use FFP to curtail City’s development regardless of whether this recent ban is upheld.

They have to kill the cancer, rather than just carrying on treating the symptoms, otherwise the cancer will eventually kill the club.

I agree with this completely. That's why the CAS appeal is an intermediate step. Wouldn't it be interesting if there were emails to and fro from UEFA board members and other clubs suggesting City had to be "shut down" or "stopped"? All discoverable as a matter of law in a civil case -- which is I think why the City statement is so adamant about this being a "closed" process within UEFA. And I bet some other clubs would show up as threats too. UEFA is taking an awful risk here -- though I'm sure our bravado as revealed in those hacked emails hasn't help smooth the feathers.

In the end, this is going to be about control of the game in Europe.

There’s another element to this too.

Defending against Uefa is one thing. I’ve never cared for FFP and I’d rather we’d fought against it.

However, we didn’t, instead we became self sustaining and we made quite a big thing about how good our business model was. As a fan, I bought into that fully.

If, and it’s still an if, we cooked the books, then it won’t annoy me that we failed ffp or try to hoodwink Uefa. I’d be more annoyed that the vision of self sustainability and when we got there that was sold to me as a fan was a myth.

Had we ignored ffp, spent what we liked and accepted all the consequences, I’d have backed the owners to the hilt. Had we challenged uefa immediately about ffp as a principle, I’d have backed the owners to the hilt. If they’ve lied to me as a fan in order to lie to uefa and created the pretence that we’ve passed and our business model was always sound, that’s where I start to have an issue.

I don’t know which one yet is actually true. I want to believe and have always backed that the club is right and will continue to do so unless I see enough to think otherwise. The email leak was worrying to say the least though and if we have been misled (and I mean us as fans rather than Uefa) then my support for the owners will go very quickly.

It’s just a wait and see now though. Feels like we’re approaching the end game.

Media going bananas hoping for us to get relegated and stripped of titles. I feel like I’m done with football
No chance the Premier league act on something that could be overturned, they will keep their powder dry................. For Now!

Could this not drag out for years, after CAS the European courts?

To be honest as much as I hate the bastards, they have to have the evidence to have gone this far. If true this means the club have been bluffing and blustering all this time hoping it would deter them, but knowing if it failed we were fucked. We will soon find out I guess because the shit has now definitely hit the fan.
great way of putting it mate,i dont think UEFA would have gone that far if they didnt have the proof,im afraid its the later of your post that worries me,you would think we would have the better of legal teams money could buy surrley we have not fell foul here, its a massive cock up if we have

Well this has come as a shock to me,from reading bullish posts on here previously before today’s decision, uefa must have some concrete evidence to go all in with not only a 2 year ban but a fine as well, just hope that the club haven’t fucked up somewhere along the line regarding ffp and sponsorship deals, and even if we do get this overturned it’s the mud that’s been flung that sticks, the reputation of the club has been tarnished by all this shit ..
Which is pretty much the point.
Continually tarnishing our reputation aided and abetted by all the media.
Continually discrediting all achievements.
They are turning the fans off football by use of what we see as pronlonged bias against us on and off the pitch.

Fans of Clubs benefitting aren’t concerned about the integrity of the sport. VAR and dubious refereeing doesn’t concern them as long as they gain. Because the narrative in the media is always stacked in their favour.

Well it’s worked. Whether we beat them or not in the probably long drawn out CAS and court battles, I’m coming to the end of caring about football.
If all it means at the end of it is that we get to play in their corrupt business league then I’m done.

They have succeeded in turning me off football. Not City.
I’ll support City in the new sport of European Courts, but football is dead.
I’m starting to find the whole business obscene.

I hope we have got our house in order rather than play this game of brinkmanship with UEFA.

If we appeal through CAS and possibly the Swiss Supreme courts and are still found guilty, I'm not sure where we go from there.
Change of Ownership?
Start out own competition with like minded clubs to rival the Champions League and invite World Wide clubs to participate.
Remain as UEfa's whipping boys.
Try and get some influence in the corridors of power?
I don't think we can afford to lose the war we are in at the moment but we can't carry on like the present status Quo from now on.
Looks line it's shit or bust!
