The media: this is really serious, it’s the worst virus we have had in ages, potentially millions will die and people will have to be quarantined and self isolate its really really bad.

ok , we hear you people prepare by stockpiling essentials

the media: why are people stockpiling ?

The question should be asked “why are people stockpiling?” because people don’t need that many toilet rolls.

People should be buying lots of foodstuffs to make things like soups, stews and ragus that you can freeze and use in the future; not things like toilet rolls. We have running water to clean ourselves!

People shouldn’t have to be stockpiling cleaning products because they should be cleaning their homes regularly anyway so shouldn’t need to have loads of the stuff sitting idle in their cupboards. Just clean your homes as you should do, with the same amount you should do, in any other week whether there’s a virus knocking about or not.

There’ll be homes with no toilet rolls and no cleaning products, who are going to the shops with genuine need, but can’t buy any because some daft families have a cupboard full of 100 toilet rolls and a dozen bottles of Dettol.

I never mentioned bog rolls . I have no idea why people think shit roll is more important than foodstuffs and night nurse !

Fixed for you

One official said if you close a stadium but still show the match on TV, people will go to the pub. The chance of infection then is greater as everyone is closer to each other
People will go to the pub, but what percentage of a typical City crowd? I would sometimes go to the pub, sometimes watch at home. Depends mainly on the kick off times. There are plenty of kids with their parents who probably wouldn’t go to the pub. Quite a few non drinkers. What percentage of City fans have Sky subscriptions? They wouldn’t all go to the pub for every match. And people watching the match in a pub aren’t going to be anywhere near as close to each other as those catching a tram to the Etihad.

We've had similar photos go viral in Dubai. Turned out that one of the people had been sent out to buy one for each person in her office and the other was buying a bottle to put on the cash desk of each of his corner shops. Both of which seem pretty sensible.

Although, yes, this particular guy could just be a massive selfish ****.

And there you have it:

Italy. Total cases 5,883. Up +1,247 from yesterday. Blimey.
I wonder if any statisticians can extrapolate the UK figures and give a very rough estimate what percentage of the population will have or had the virus by the end of April. Just to give a feel as to the likelihood that City will be in quarantine by the time CL semi finals come round

This Stalinism waging moral outrage war against people who have the sense to provision for the worst case scenario is just vile.

Why if you are going to be possibly stuck at home for 14 days would you need 20-30 hand sanitizers and a 100 toilet rolls for example

You ain't gonnna need to sterilized your hands 600 times or have 1000 shits in that time.

Over stocking and leaving shelves empty so others cannot buy the same products is selfish.

It isn't stalinist to point that out.

who knows how long this will last. Self-preservation and looking after yourself and your family is a human virtue.

Be here easter weekend when the shops are shut friday and monday, it is crazy the amount of hoarding from supermarkets which are open on the saturday inbetween

Thirdly, how do they sort out the relegation positions with Villa having played a game fewer than their rivals?

Simple, just use the ‘historic success’ formula that will be used to determine CL qualification in the coming years. ;-)

I'd imagine having a song about the European cup may be worth an extra 6 points. I think if the rags get into 4th they'll shit-can the season early. If we get anywhere neat the CL final I'd imagine UEFA will call it a day and award it to the reigning champs for a second year too.

It doubles every three days and there are about 200 cases in the uk. So in 50 days there could be 200x2^(50/3)=21 million.
