Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

That is true. You should be cancelling travel, schools and work places before football.

Mass testing and isolation for those infected is the only way if they really want to get on top of it. They are hoping it dies off I think so hedging their bets. The general public are collateral damage, they don't really give a shit about us just so long as enough of us survive to generate profit for them and services.

Well as much as it would be amusing if the scousers won the league against Palace in an empty stadium imagine if that happened. You would probably have about 50,000 maybe more outside the ground that day or at least in the centre of the City. It wouldn’t solve anything and if they were all outside the ground it could be pretty dangerous.
Yes especially if this fckr is around...

By the weekend the number will surely be closer to 1k so I don’t see the point in continuing with the matches it will just spread the virus faster

Just been told NASA has said there is a Huge Asteroid 4 Miles wide going to pass by Earth on April the 29th.

Should name it Corona.

Poor that there is still no confirmation that Olympiacos v wolves is going to be behind closed doors. U.K. Gov has updated its website with travel info for wolves fans as if they'll be allowed in, whereas all the info from Greece is that they won't and considering the game is on Thursday the messages are really confusing!

It's a shame but I can see all European competition football played behind closed doors for the rest of the season.

They could suspend it but it's just where do you fit it in, unless they delay the Euro's and delay the start of next season.

I thought the Covid19 pandemic probably deserved a football focused thread for us to talk about its effects on sport as well as the off topic one which is more geared towards how we will all die and the economy is doomed.

Italy just suspended all football until April 5. They decided that even playing behind closed doors was too dangerous with 40+ people per team moving in and out of high risk areas to stage games.

What Napoli and Juventus will do in the Champions League is sure to become a big topic shortly.

Why is he quoting April the 5th as a starting back up date?

Just confirmed now that'll it'll be played behind closed doors. Bars in Athens will be pretty crowded Thursday night I reckon. Over 1k already have flights and accommodation booked.

On a purely financial basis big home game revenue earners like the scum could be massive out of pocket, it could also send under some league clubs.
