Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

It's a serious question, actually. How can you just ‘award’ Liverpool (or anyone else) the league title? As long as it's not mathematically won, it's not won. They're a near certainty to win it. But near is near. I don't see that the question of merit comes into it, or as soon as it does, subjective factors come into play.
Just for the sake of hypothetical argument: supposing, in the spring of 2012, in the wake of our defeat by Arsenal, a viral pandemic had hit, the league had been suspended, and it had been decided to award the title anyway. Who do you think it would have gone to?
At the other end of the table, would you relegate Norwich and promote one of Leeds or West Brom on the basis of likely outcomes? Or on who ‘deserves’ to be relegated or promoted?

cancel the league, expunge this years results from the records, start again next season

its what precedence suggests should happen, see 1939

I'm absolutely gutted this season will likely get cancelled/null and voided.

A few weeks back I was asked to invest in a Merseyside candle making outfit, but they were looking like they were about to go under due to the positive mood, so I turned it down and held out for a better opportunity.

Its like being handed the winning Lottery Jackpot numbers in advance, but deciding to save up for a trip to the Bingo instead.

Let them do it and brag about winning it all season, every single fan of every other team would rip the piss out of them for not actually winning it anyway. This combined with UEFAs bullshit and VAR this season has tainted my view of modern day football beyond repair tbh, really lost interest in it, the way the FA, Premier League, UEFA have acted makes me realise it really is all just about money and i'm at the point where I'm 99% not renewing, my love for the game as whole has gone.
totally agree
i have resigned myself to sacking it all off

Fuck the dippers
We don’t know for 100% they collapse and we win it
Therefore why should we accept it
Till they have more points than we can actually get it’s game on

Fuck me on Wednesday at 2-0 against athletico we would have give them the game
It don’t work that way and now they are out

They are not our friends and as such they can fuck off

Oh well. It is what it is and trying to prevent people dying from this virus is the main thing.

Think I'll use the free weekends to get out in the peak district, lake district and maybe a few coastal areas. Won't be spending my time in crowded city centres or shopping centres like the awful Trafford Centre anyway.

I believe Eyam is nice at this time of year...

Try to quickly make your Merseyside investment in a local outfit printing blank petition forms.

Just a hunch, I'm no investment expert.

I’m sure the players would jump at the chance of getting a life threatening virus so they can go back to kicking a ball about in a couple of weeks.
Fuckinell.

But Boris Scientific Advisors tell us that if you are fit and healthy you will only show mild symptoms.......and he specifically wants 30% of the population to catch the virus before the spike anyway, so they will be immune when spike arrives. All the infectious people then will not be able to infect the 30% as they will be immune. Then the 30% can cover the workplace whilst 40% in isolation.

Football is a business just like all the others. If a business wants to pay for flu injections for all its workforce rather than just the ones on the governments vulnerable list.......

I think you’ll find that their prolonged use of performance enhancing drugs would guarantee them the league.

Disclaimer: The above is only intended as a joke, in the same way Jo Brand endorsed throwing acid at Nigel Farage. It was only meant as humorous and in no way do I think Livarpool... sorry Liverpool, cheat.

You lost me at Boris’s scientific advisors.

There's not enough money in football to last a month without income never mind a year!! I think you mean within the Premier League !! Tell that to a League 2 player on £500 a week who already hasn't been paid (Macs / Oldham etc) - not a cat in hells chance they are gonna get paid now.
I meant there's enough money in football at the top level to support those further down the pyramid. Time for the sport to show it's capable of doing the right thing for once.

So I'm expecting very little live football for the next 6 months.
I certainly don't see matches being played on April 3rd because by that time gatherings of >500 are likely to have been banned, due to number of deaths spiralling.
Apparently UK government now expecting 80% of population to be infected :-o .
My own team is in the National League North, and their match is going ahead according to the website. Normal home gate is around 2000 to 3000, but this weekend might be easily less than 500 if people realise the seriousness of the situation and stay away!

So I can finally get rid of my rip of Sky Sports Football (only) subscription!
It was costing £15/month (in HD) as an add-on for the football channels only.
Just last week they increased the £15 football part to £22 and added £6 for HD. Really wound me up (to say the least).
On their website new subscribers can get all Sky Sports channels in HD for only £20/month.
I only really watch ManC matches, but as I said I'm not expecting any of their matches to be televised for another 6 months :-(
