Of course people come first but the economy is vital for people as well. Companies close, jobs are lost, people lose their houses, can't feed their families etc. That is why it is such a delicate balancing act - trying to minimise damage to the economy while keeping people safe.
I’m so unconvinced that any strategy will make much difference in terms of the economy. There’s going to be a global crash the likes of which we may never have seen before. We surely won’t be immune from that no matter what we do. Completely prioritise saving lives now and rebuild the economy after. I don’t see any reasonable alternative to that, personally.

That's the difficult bit. Some countries have gone into full lockdown, others have closed schools but not borders, some have done neither. I think all countries have the same tools at their disposal. It's just when and how best to use them. Some may come out of this period better but then get hit harder later in the year, whereas others may be the opposite.

it’s not really how Big Pharma do business though. They like the big bucks to be agreed before their products are distributed.

We have seen unprecedented global events in the last few weeks and will continue to see more on a government, corporate, sporting and personal level - pharma companies will bend to whatever the governments tell them to do in situations like this, they will have a shotgun to the head - they will get paid but the public comes first

BREAKINGFrance announces sweeping restrictions
French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has ordered the closure of all non-essential public locations from midnight (23:00 GMT Saturday) in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

The measure applies to restaurants, cafes, cinemas and nightclubs, as well as "non-essential" businesses.

Mr Philippe also called on French people to reduce their travel, especially between towns.

You will always come across knobs like that all you can do is follow advice yourself

We escaped to Debenhams yesterday to purchase a brace of gloves and a snood for over the mouth and nasal hygiene and we decided to play a game. Spot the potential virus spreader and sadly their legions were many.

Cross contamination with cash and receiving change back to further contaminate others.
Holding onto the handrail of escalators.
Shopping baskets.
Opening and shutting of doors with bare hands.
Trying out the various perfumery via sample bottles.
Mooching over 50% rails.
And more, much more than this.

It's pretty much non containable if you venture outside and as we engaged in conversation over afternoon tea we came to the decision that even the most ardent among us will unknowingly let their guards down. Did our coffee cups receive the correct levels of sterilization and did that server scratch her nose pre-pour. Who mixed the fresh cream for our scones and was our tray as clean as it could have been. Not trying to be clever but if you expose yourself outside of home then the virus will find you and it may kill you. So all the people that we watched Mr Villa could also be described as practitioners of knobology and the scary thing is that they didn't even know it. And what about our brave front line troops who have to venture outdoors regardless of danger to keep us safe, because for those unsung heroes the word isolation is not an option. I speak of law enforcement, fire, ambulance, medical staff and toilet roll manufacturers:

I think we shall both stay home and venture out only for emergency and acquisition of fodder. Stay safe everyone and lets appraise before we engage because this is only the beginning and we are all in this for a long run and also because I can feel a song coming on : /

This Road Is Long.

I won't sigh if my dreams are only dreams
And it may not be the drawing that I drew
Oh I wish I had a better plan but it so seems

That I don't what the world wants me to do

So this is a worrying development. Italian doctors are now seeing a younger demographic of people coming into hospital. The second wave they are calling it. So much is still unknown as to how this virus is going to progress through the population which is really the details you need if your trying to be strategic.

“Now the virus has spread, it is travelling around the whole country way more and it is younger people, with lots of social contact, that are more at risk of contracting the disease if they do not stick to the rules of social distancing.”
