Seriously can people just quit the fuckin squabbles and discuss the topic. It’s pathetic.

Personal thoughts on this will always differ and as this is a forum those points of view will be discussed.

Let’s do it without the fucking insults though.

Came on here for some civil conversation/debate not a playground scrap.

Brother got back from Spain yesterday. No checks on arrival. No instructions to self isolate or take precautions. We don’t appear to be doing very much at all to control the spread.

So there’s currently been just over 6,000 deaths worldwide, in a population of over 7 billion. At what point do people reckon there’s going to be a spike that will result in the number being in the millions that gets mentioned.

This isn’t aimed as a ‘oh it’s all overblown etc’ but genuinely can’t see the numbers being near that?

I think the death rate will end up significantly under 1% if we can ever put a number on how many people contracted it.

Because it would appear the government want it to spread, to an extent.

There is a point there though. He states that nobody seems too concerned about the flu (despite it killing thousands every year) and everybody has replied with dismissive comments about 'a bit of flu' which kind of makes his point.

Don’t think it’s that nobody cares but it’s all relative and unfortunately a few months of this will show the difference.

At the current rate of growth 40 days to get to a million, then it will double every 4 days, but it will probably be a lot longer because governments will impose more and more restrictions on movement the worse it gets.

I guess the same would apply to him as anyone else. If you have the symptoms, self-isolate. No idea where he was coming from but some areas of Spain don't have any cases yet.

Why in the coming weeks the over 70's and vulnerable will be asked to self isolate? What about doing it now,i cannot see for the life of me see how they are protecting the vulnerable now, what are they eaiting for, everiything seems to be "at the right time"

This plan is bollocks but we are told to trust them

Yes the same applies to him but he’s not been here while the government has been issuing instructions. Luckily he’s not stupid so he knows what to do.

Probably will though I hope not. I just found all the replies of 'a bit of flu' to be a bit dismissive of something that kills many thousands of people annually. Although perhaps those kind of replies were due to the tone of the poster.

take a look at this graph.

https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

Currently this is doubling every 6/7 days ( graph moving faster could be down to speed of testing increasing) , And our government is saying the peek is 10/14 weeks away, so mathematically speaking ( using 7 days doubling) in 10/14 weeks time we will be at 76m to 1.22bn world wide cases unless something slows it down.

currently best case estimates are 1% of those will die. And that’s with decent medical care which will be in very short supply / non existent in most places. The WHO are currently saying 3.5% or so will die. As when they looked in China they didn’t find the “iceberg” they were expecting.

For all of you highly educated people on this forum that had to cancel their trips to cultural hotspots, here's some online tours and collections.

They certainly don’t appear to be that bothered about controlling the rate of growth. Fortunately most people seem to have the sense to be taking it upon themselves to take precautions. Many aren’t though which is why we should have clearer direction from the leadership of the country.

The fact that such points can be so easily and accurately made is not an issue then?

So what? Does winning a majority exempt the Government from a duty of care or competence?
Of course not but party political stuff is creeping in with one or two individuals. If that’s what drives and informs the debate, so be it.

Not for me though. I’ve got family arriving, which is more important to me than arguing for the sake of it.
