Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

The news this evening puts the whole thing into perspective. Finishing this season will not happen, in fact I would brace yourself for no next season as well.

The change in strategy from managed slow infection of the population to isolation means this will go on for a lot longer, maybe until a vaccination is ready.

My guess is we are looking at 12-18 months of this ahead so don’t expect to be watching anything, and a lot of clubs are going to disappear during this.

We are looking at a total reset for society, never mind football.

I do hope you can all stay safe.

30 years on Liverpool's 2020 squad still hope their 76th appeal will finally award them the title

Manchester City players have been training at home over the weekend, while the club are remaining tight-lipped regarding whether they will be training together as usual

Leeds, West Brom, Fulham, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Preston held a secret emergency meeting yesterday to discuss their position. A further follow-up meeting, via conference call and involving all 24 Championship clubs, will be held today.

The top six clubs in the Sky Bet Championship are ready to launch a legal challenge against their Premier League counterparts if they try to declare this season null and void and deny them three promotion places.

The clubs are “seething” about some of the statements coming from certain Premier League clubs calling for the season to be scrapped. The Championship’s top six want the season to be completed, even if it means delaying the start of next season

Despite the Premier League meeting on Thursday, they cannot come to a quick/definite decision as no-one knows the full extent of the virus. Premier League meetings may drag into next week and they may resist putting a timescale on the return of the league.

UEFA's determination to finish this season's Champions League and Europa League could see International football scrapped for 12 months, with the postponement of EURO 2020 and the abandonment of the Nations Leagu

A source at UEFA has insisted that "every idea will be listened to" at tomorrow's meeting and that EURO2020 moving back was a certainty

BREAKING: The FA has announced it is "advising that all grassroots football in England is postponed for the foreseeable future."

Sports broadcasters will hold crisis meetings today to discuss how they are going to fill their schedules over the coming weeks and possibly months. Sky and BT currently have no plans to reduce subscription fees, as the season has not been cancelled.

Customers may end up watching all the matches they have paid for at some stage. Should the season be called off, that situation may change

"Seething", "legal challenges", "determination to finish the leagues" . Their greed and lack of awareness of the seriousness of this health crisis is beyond depressing. No court would entertain any claim, the world, not just the UK, is on special measures which are changing our lives. Shankly was wrong, football is not more serious than life and death.

Just resume where we left off is the answer. Even if it is ten years to go.

Give it a few weeks. Nobody will give a fuck about football. Even in Liverpool.
Glad of the break personally. This season has been the least enjoyable in memory tbh. For VARious obvious reasons.
Could not agree more , perhaps people will come to their senses during this enforced lay off and come to realise what's what and fuck this shitshow off.

How the frell this is even a discussion at the moment is beyond me. Nobody has a clue how things will stand in a couple of weeks let alone months down the line. Some teams may not even be in existence to finish any league games for a supposed resumption. Are people expecting clubs that pay wages from that weeks gate receipts to still be around in six months? Never mind squads that lose players to contract expiration or possible other reasons. Talk of what should happen next should be saved for when there is light at the end of the tunnel. For now focus on the welfare of the players and clubs should be the primary concern not awarding pretend medals for nearly winning things.

Manchester City players are still not training at the City Football Academy amid concerns over the spread of COVID-19. City's players have been given additional time off while authorities discuss how to proceed against the backdrop of the pandemic

Manchester City players have been given personalised fitness programmes to follow remotely, while City's training ground is out of bounds. The CFA could be out of action until March 24, until the club are satisfied it is safe for players to return there.
