The vaccine is miles away, we might as well forget about it.

The big hope for a silver bullet is the Dutch lab which found an antibody and has partnered with a big pharma company to mass produce. The trials and production phase for them is much smaller and it's an actual treatment for people who are ill.

Any more details of this anywhere?

Difficult being in separate households to my 7 year old and 45 minutes away in London.

His mother is already in full on panic mode.

Yep i think there is a lot of clever people working on drugs that can help now

Re: Schools

My wife who works in a hospital lab dealing with all the testing etc, was talking to another professional in a higher capacity - and taken with a pinch of salt, the government currently to not have the power/authority to close the schools en masse and need to pass a law to allow them to do this. They are going to get it through the HoC on Thursday and close the schools on Friday.

Apparently/allegedly etc........

Thought is worth sharing, as it makes a little bit of sense.

Head teacher told me that the DoE can do it. Schools cant do it themselves.

I have been pretty agrophobic for a decade and i hardly go out so i am fully set up and just being my normal self, some beautiful souls on here got me out and to 3 games and travelling, nothing i thought i would be able to do again,i will miss that but being back in my bubble is absolutely fine,it is therefore quite difficult for me to understand how the rest of you feel about being isolated, get the practical things like food deliveries sorted out and spend some time talking to people on the phone, really talking and not the quick chats or texts that we do these days, that will help
There is always someone to talk to on here, keep the football banter going, there is no reason to stop laughing at the dippers and rags to pass the time, this will pass eventually

Thanks for sharing that, Karen. I am just at the stage where I question the point of everything. Never been a slave to money or too ambitious, my Mrs has more than enough of that for the two of us. Made a decision a few years back to go to uni, and try and get something other than a mundane job, which I know I can do better than. Ive had a keen eye on the news throughout this virus, to my detriment with wasted mental energy. I see an economic mess after this, hindering any job prospects, holiday plans cancelled, and both my parents are very vulnerable for this virus. Need to be strong for them, but I know I’m struggling.

There's not been anything since the announcement they found it a few days ago.

There are a few others working on similar research toward effective antibody treatment, as well — multiple channels to implementation are important, so we should welcome multiple major entities focusing their activities on this given a vaccine is still far off.

My circumstances were enforced on me through illness then an accident, all i can say is you can adapt, life might be different after this but it might be better eventually, society, the economy is going be reset, the best advice i was given was to not look too far ahead, that is all out of your control, just concentrate on what you do now,day by day,if you are really struggling then talk, give the news a rest for a few days

I could probably do with a few months of not paying council tax but can’t really afford it to mount up. It’s gone up to £1760 for next year

Schools in Scotland and Wales to shut on Friday. Surely the English ones will follow.
It's a funny old world. Took my son with an underlying condition out of school in Wales early last week and got pure shit from some people, one or two people even told my wife we were being irresponsible. 8 days later the school is shutting.

All schools in Scotland and Wales to close by Friday.
I can't help but think they have been forced into it as they were with mass gatherings,it just feels like we had a plan at the start but they are just reacting to pressure with everything since, might just be an impression

I remember when this lass was complaining about having to jet set and be based in the south of France and now she's explaining that she can't run and train, do these people think they are something special? that rules don't apply to them? She owns a property and lives in France but is heading home, on her journey I suspect she couldn't care less who she infects.
She's not alone in this mindset but it looks like she wants business to continue as normal, are all these needy buggers that selfish?

My son had to self isolate and was never tested I suspect millions of people are in the same boat and they have elderly relatives etc, it's a bit shit but it's where we are and it's the same for everyone bud. On your wider point of testing everyone so that they will show that they have had it and would be clear, they will still be effectually carriers.
I know I wont be tested and I have promised myself that I will help out where I can and accept the risks involved when they arise, that I believe is what we can do individually.
I wasn’t aware you can still be a carrier once you’ve had it and are not clear. Are you sure? That’s very worrying if so

there are cases in Japan where someone had it, were given the all clear and retested positive 3 weeks later, also lots of cases in China ( 13% if I recall ) re tested positive.

the assumption was at the time that this could be a reinfection however the newest thought on it is that people had been getting false negatives on the tests ( apparently throat swabs are not the most reliable type of test as can be taking incorrectly ). so it looks like in some cases the virus can linger on for a 4/5/6 weeks.

I'm so tempted to respond but in these times of togetherness i'm going to let it pass and suggest you spend your free time listening to the select Committee meetings to give yourself a fuller understanding of the testing policy and perhaps read the government guidelines here.

I will though ask why you think your situation would be different after recovery if you had a test?
Maybe you’d like to volunteer to go and be a teaching assistant, dinner lady/man, office staff and have kids cough and sneeze on you then go home and give it to your mum, dad, grandparent, elderly neighbour etc. Everyone else seems to be given options to be able to avoid getting the virus, except school teachers and medical/nhs staff (who are tested)
