COVID-19 — Coronavirus

A drive-through coronavirus test site has opened in Wolverhampton to allow members of the public to check if they have the disease.

The NHS in England is set to "ramp up" facilities nationwide so 10,000 tests can be done each day

The number of people with the coronavirus in the UK has risen to 456 after a further 83 tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours.

The number is the biggest daily increase in coronavirus cases in the UK, where six people have died from the illness.

There were 54 new cases recorded in the 24 hours leading up to 9am on Tuesday, and 46 new cases were identified in the 24 hours up to 9am on Monday.

The daily figures have been released by Public Health England

A study has found people who have contracted the coronavirus are at their most contagious early after becoming infected and potentially before displaying symptoms.

Scientists in Berlin and Munich conducted the study, which is still awaiting peer review, by analysing clinical data from patients who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and checking them with throat swabs.

It is clear more tests need to be done, and should have been before now. As I have previously mentioned I am not convinced that I have already had it. I did the 111 thing and as I had not been to Italy or China they were not at all interested.

Widespread testing may of course cause more panic as the infection count will probably rocket. It will however surely give a more accurate view as to what is actually happening and in that there may infact be some positive news.

This isn’t a conspiracy theory, this is just me thinking about our rotten luck and Covid-19 and football.

I’d bet any money you like that Liverpool play at home tonight in front of their fans with all the advantages that brings and our game next week is behind closed door, losing our advantage.

They should just him off the CL if it isn’t a level playing field.
I think there's a very real possibility of the entire tournament being cancelled. Once we have more than a handful of infected players and/or staff, it's difficult to see how games can go ahead at all, e.g. ours tonight.

People need to eat and buy supplies, they do not *need* to collect together in mass numbers for several hours in the name of fun. A certain amount of risk is necessary and acceptable. I'm aware that people rely on income from these events too, but what's more important, money or life?
I'll answer that for you, life!

EDIT:
Our very own Karen7 and Worsleyweb *may* both have Covid19 after sitting next to each other for presumably 2 hours at Wembley. Hope they both get well asap.

How many more people may have or may be affected I wonder.
We spent about 8hrs together and he had my arm the whole time, couple of hugs, impossible to know if i had it before during or after

To be honest, I'd be more relieved with a higher infected count because it would mean the death rate is much lower than we might otherwise fear. At the moment we are seeing death rates which are sky high and "hoping" that there's loads more people infected and that it isn't so bad in reality. South Korea would tend to indicate that's the case. Maybe Italy is inundated because half the country is in fact infected already? That would be (bizarrely) great news if true.

people can order food and supplies to their house

i'd say the chances of virus spread is 10x greater at large shopping centers than it is at Cheltenham Horse races

Is anyone aware of any stats available for the ICU rate per infection anywhere?
It's supposedly 5%, but the million dollar question is how many people are not on the register at all. If there's 10x not in the system then maybe it's only 0.5%? I believe it's currently running at 5% of known active cases though, overall. HIgher in Italy, lower elsewhere.

I honestly believe tens of thousands have it - if i have it (will know in 3 days apparently) and Kaz - how likely is it that of the 450 odd cases in the Uk - 2 of them post on here? Odds must be in the multi millions.
