Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Football is just like all the other sports...they can't just say "Oh well no sport for the forseeable future lets meet back whenever". They have to just say "maybe we can start in May..." and then when that deadline passes, try and organise it for a few months after that.

Tennis is rearranging Roland Garros for September, F1 thinks it might be able to do Baku onwards and go through their summer break, Rugby hopes to finish the 6 Nations in October etc.

None of them are likely to happen if the government are right but you can't just pack up and come back in 18 months.

You have been taking a measured stance with this issue of Covid-19 generally and also on this thread. There are all sorts of dire predictions and possibly some of them will unfortunately happen & in that case football won't be in the top 100 things anyone will be the slightest bit concerned with.

it could also be the case that countries will get on top of this relatively soon with a combination of mitigation, new treatments, warmer weather and so on and things might start to gradually improve. In that case everything can be looked at with a view to starting up again.

I hope the latter is the eventual outcome. I don't give a fuck if Liverpool win the league.

Premier League players are 'ready to revolt' over concerns a fixture pile-up will leave them burnt out. Players fear the top-flight officials are determined to finish the season in the summer then rush into the 2020/21 campaign.

What is the players union doing about this, Jack Shit by the looks of it. They should be out there fighting their corner telling the FA that their members won't be playing football of any kind until the pandemic is over and it's safe for all concerned, no matter how long it takes

Haven't heard a peep out of them, silent like they were when raz needed help but surprisingly vocal in defending barton for the last decade

What happened to the Liverpool thread ?
I’ve removed it for now, as some of our fans seem unable to discuss them sensibly without referring to them as “vermin”, “scum”, “murdering bastards” etc. This in turn attracts their dickheads, with their racist tropes about our owners, and the circle of idiocy is complete. It’s tiring to try and control the vitriol from both sides, and we all have more important things in life to deal with right now.

I'll give you all my personal circumstances today. Work in the hospitality industry now. Forced closure, unofficial but looking at least 13 weeks minimum before reopening. Bonus of 1k due to be paid on the 27th, earnt for the period October to January. Now not being paid. I know I'm looking at it from my perspective but if todays announcement had been made next week id be around 750 quid better off which would have covered 3 months of the reduced 80% salary. Rant over!

I know it’s not much consolation pal, but at least you have your health. I feel for your loss of job, it’s hard, but some people are losing their life. I hope you get through this and get back into a position soon.

so your workplace is not paying your bonus that you've already earned?
that doesn't seem right to me, unless your money, and the money from others i'd imagine, help keeps them from going under so you have the benefit of a job to go back to.
It looks like the boss/owner is taking your cash to supplement their loss of income.
I'd ask questions, and confer with others. take care and good luck.

Yes. And it’s fanciful to think the telly money will continue to roll in for the next 18 months
