Another day goes by, another day wasted on the testing front.

The government seem quite content to go on with this lockdown strategy when technology seems to be changing the situation. Where is the mass testing strategy? There isn't one. In Germany they have changed their approach. Their record on testing was worse than the UK,but at 5 minutes to mdnight they think there's mileage in trying to quarantine infected people. If you can do that, I am certain that that is the way to go. It's far more effective than blunt force curfews. That should be the strategy of third world states who don't have a sophisticated health service and state. Follow WHO guidelines.

Unless the testing effort is mega, it's probably a waste of time.

They are possibly on good terms, however I don't think the USA was on a war footing re corona until they started to see it in their cities. Now they are moving. I doubt the USA will be prepared to take defeat and stasis like the UK government. That wont be an option for them.

Trump did that after being warned by the NSA on what was likely to happen in the States. He didn’t believe them.

This is all before he started calling it the Chinese Virus, obviously.

Up till January 22nd the Chinese were still insisting to international bodies that there was no indication of human to human transmission, they already strongly suspected with cases it was H2H on the 1st December as no contact with wet markets on cases they were seeing in hospital.

Surely you can see that this misinformation (polite word for lie) played an significant role in the West’s policy to this.

Up to that point they couldn’t rule out it wasn’t from produce from the market though rather than H2H.

It was January 20th that they confirmed H2H. They started going into lockdown three days after that. Bear in mind this was a new virus and they were the first country impacted, everyone else was able to see what happened post lockdown (a far stronger one than the west is capable of) and the subsequent spread.

This says it all. A private employer acquires tens of thousands of testing kits for its employees whilst the UK Govt is completely incapable of doing likewise for healthworkers. There is zero political will in the Cabinet to fight this. They just want to ride it out.

You are 100% right about the importance of testing. I’m hoping the delay is in getting a reliable test in place, and then ramping up the numbers.

We will be.
Accurate test kits do not grow on trees. 40k of test kits bought from China have already had to be binned because they're shit.
Our PCR active virus testing will ramp up to about 50k a day by the next week and then they intend to do the Antigen tests in very big numbers as they need to get blood donations in big numbers to inject plasma (with antigens) in to those at risk who have started to get ill to slug the death stats.
Once the peak of the current wave is past then they will start to look at mass PCR live virus testing to stop future waves in their tracks.
That's the strategy from what I've read anyway.

Like most cheap tacky shit we import from them. They ought to concentrate on making quality test kits than knock off dodgy designer fakes
