Not convinced Chippy mate, I think it might have got here just before Xmas with people coming from China. I had something suspicious at the beginning of Feb that took a good three weeks to throw off, and it was mild. I am convinced I either picked it up in Malaga or at the airport coming back where I sat in the middle of about 200 italians waiting for a flight with Milan.

The more I hear the more I think there is a chance I have had the bugger.

If it does turn out that I did have it I will consider myself extremely lucky to have got off so lightly and only the fact I would rarely be at all lucky makes me think it was something else.
I came back from Canada first week of February and got a really heavy chest and hacking cough with a splitting headache almost immediately after getting home ,had it for about 10 days no way was it just flu and i dont believe all the guff that this started with wet markets and bat soup either .

The Black Death.
Now that really was stretching it a bit.
And yellow fever. Don’t mention that.

Or German measles. (Don’t mention the war.)

As for “common cold”, anyone think that is borderline class warfare?

What could possibly go wrong

All bloody good news - which means it looks like social distancing had a massive effect on the spread of the virus.

Not sure if anyone can find the source of this information as I am sure I heard it on one of the news outlets on TV yesterday rather than online (but not certain) but the statistics stated that the average time lapse from infection to death was approximately 1 month.

The beginning of Feb is not "at Christmas" mate. I would say the chances you had it by early Feb are very slim indeed. Beginning of Jan? No chance.

Why? Because this is a highly infectious disease and whoever had it would have passed it on to others who passed it on to others, exponentially. If someone had it at Christmas in the UK, then we would be miles further advanced with this disease in the UK than we are now.

I drove from Toronto to Florida in early January. On the way down I started to feel cold symptoms. By the time I arrived these were fully developed and lasted about 6 weeks. It was very strange. Never had a cold last that long.

Wow, we have almost double the deaths Spain had at this point.

Correct but by week 3 for Spain- 28 days (24th March) it was 2991 so 2000 extra in 5 days

The question is does the UK expect 2000 deaths in the next 5 days - i dont think so - maybe 750ish.

They are on target for 8k deaths @ 4 weeks - 35 days tomorrow

Just think how many lives this cost?
I'm fed up with this now so - as I'm in a queue outside the pharmacy - I've given it more attention than I wanted to.

And if it had not been transmissible between humans how much of a travel ban would you have unnecessarily wanted imposed? The doctor (whistleblower) was right to suggest it might be a SARS virus but he could have been wrong. Given the reluctance of western governments to lock down their travel and not even check arrivals from known hotspots even now, finger pointing at China or WHO seems just deflection.

Do you really think they weren't trying to identify it because they are communists? WHO reported on 12 January that "A total of 763 close contacts including healthcare workers, have been identified and followed up and no additional cases of infection with the novel coronavirus have been identified".

Blaming the Chinese for not knowing what they were dealing with and trying to suppress what might have been panic-inducing opinion is one thing. Excusing western governments their inaction when they did know what they were dealing with is another.

Go on - imagine it. The population of Wuhan finds out there's a highly infectious SARS virus in the city. "Let's all go home to other parts of China ..."

Can I suggest another offshoot thread to declutter this? The whose fault is it pointless thread.

Time will tell. I reckon there is more to come out about this. I do increasingly get the feeling that millions have had it in the UK and its been here a little longer than is currently being suggested.

One thing I am sure of is that as bad as this is, it will turn out that the world has had a very lucky escape. Had it been a serious killer that spread at the same pace think its quite possible the population of this country could well have been about 30million and dropping right now.

Well if you do some research into the city this all started in you find china has a research laboratory in the city , so you just wonder if something escaped or the population was used as an experiment ? Funny how just as Hong Kong is about to kick off big time a virus is putting mass populations into quarentine and leaving urban areas empty!

We don’t need to clutter the thread we know the answer
