COVID-19 — Coronavirus

That's just been reported on the RTE news over here. Apparently, people who have died away from hospitals in the UK are not counted until it is confirmed that COVID-19 was the cause of death. Which could take a few days.
So UK Covid fatalities are counted in the stats when the cause of death is confirmed irrespective of its location - no change.

It looks like Italy is on a fast downwards trend with new cases so even though the number of deaths over the last 24 hour period has increased they should start to fall rapidly fairly soon. There has been a seismic change in our behaviour nationally and that too should mean that we can reach a peak sooner rather than later. Combine that with more NHS provision plus more testing and there is a way to overcome this pandemic.
Here's hoping

NHS england

9,000 being treated in hospital up 2,800 since friday

As of Monday, 134,946 tests have been carried out across the UK; 112,805 were negative and 22,141 positive, said the Department of Health and Social Care.

In Scotland, there were 1,563 confirmed cases of coronavirus as of 9am on Monday, up 179 from Sunday.

However, the country's chief medical officer, Dr Catherine Calderwood, said the actual number of cases there is estimated at more than 100,000.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the SEC Centre in Glasgow is going to be turned into a hospital, and cancer screening programmes paused to help the NHS.

Confirmed cases in Wales have risen to 1,451, after 210 new cases were recorded on Monday.

Dr Giri Shankar, incident director for the COVID-19 outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said "the true number of cases is likely to be higher"

its crazy, i work within the chinese community 'well did do until this' and there busineses have realy taken a hit, most food outlets are down to 25% takings if not clossed down. mention the bats to them and they honestly dont have a clue that this was going on
I’m seeing it more and more mate, it’s fucking horrendous.

Imagine at the start of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s if people started saying they were “boycotting African products”.

People now would (rightly) say it’s racist. But people on here think absolutely nothing of just casually scapegoating Asians and the mods seem to let it pass unchecked. Appalling.

Our local Chinese restaurant and takeaway are well respected in the local community and I would hate for some low life twats to take it out on them for something not remotely linked to them. But I won't hold my breath excuse the phrase

But they are confirmed as Covid-19 or not though. That is the point of the discussion.
You, and others have said they are quoted, although maybe belatedly for organisational resins.

Not ignored.

There’s a world of difference.

the statistics are all out in the open and published when available. There is no conspiracy to deceive despite some peoples desperate desire for it.

About this Dataset
Provisional counts of the number of deaths registered in England and Wales, by age, sex and region, in the latest weeks for which data are available

Notes
The table includes number of deaths for which the underlying cause was coded to respiratory diseases as defined in the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems Tenth Revision (ICD-10), as well as age group, sex and by area of usual residence.

Not COVID ?

I agree with that. Whatever the eventual outcome of this - terrible though it is - the world dodged a bullet here and it could have been SO much worse. Little comfort right now, least alone for anyone affected or who have lost a loved one etc, i know. And sorry for even saying it.

Hopefully there will now be a massive worldwide effort to find a general purpose vaccine and cure effective for all future coronavirus outbreaks, because had this one been more ebola-like in its mortality rate, it could wipe out half the planet.

I fully expect that a worldwide effort will follow this and we will all be much better prepared. If it had just happened here, or in a few European countries or just the States then I could see not much being done globally. Whatever they put in place will have to be global and just for once I think we might learn the lesson Covid 19 is giving.

As you say that wont't help those who we lose this time and probably of little comfort to those they leave. For the time being we all have to do as much as we can to see this one off.

COVID is a respiratory disease...

Yeh exactly mate. They’re no more responsible for this pandemic than you or I, or anyone else on here.

I thought it was fairly clear what I posted. That is, that those deaths I referred to are not included in the coronavirus death figures until it has been confirmed (by post mortem, presumably) that those people actually died as a result of COVID-19 infection. Then, they are included.
