Statements from ExCeL London and the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company regarding the NHS Nightingale Hospital

Jeremy Rees, Chief Executive, ExCeL London said:

“The use of ExCeL London for NHS Nightingale London has always been provided to the NHS rent free. We joined the national effort to combat coronavirus immediately and worked in close partnership with the NHS to ensure this hospital could be up and running in a matter of days.

“The initial agreement with the NHS included a contribution to some fixed costs. We have since decided to cover the fixed costs ourselves.

“The ExCeL London facility is fully available to the NHS, and we are here to support all their needs and requirements during this crisis.

“I’ve seen first-hand the fantastic work that NHS Nightingale London is doing to save lives and respond to the largest national emergency the UK has faced in a generation. It is a privilege to support the NHS and its wonderful staff working tirelessly night and day to protect people and save lives.”

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, MD and GCEO of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) said:

“Protecting people and saving lives are of the utmost importance as we face this unprecedented global pandemic.

“We are doing all that we can to help the UK through these challenging times. To be clear, profit has always been the furthest thing from our minds. The venue was offered rent free from the initial conversation with the NHS, and ADNEC Group will ensure the ExCeL London partnership comes at no cost to the NHS.

“It is our firm commitment that we will not charge a penny for the use of our facilities, and we will provide the NHS with the operational and logistical support it needs for NHS Nightingale London.

“We stand in solidarity with Britain in facing this crisis together, as friends and partners.”

Yeah seen that mate.
But when you got some dumb arse fker, who in a position off power, and a shadow health secretary, check your fking facts before laundering the abuse in a national bogpaper for all to read,
I hope there retribution from the owners
And fk they yankee fkers right off to,unless am reading into it to much, seeing it states there not charges,

The thing is they are deliberately vague about what is "essential". If you consume a lot of champagne and caviar then you would probably consider buying more an essential replenishment of supplies. Until they forbid stores to sell certain lines then anything they sell is essential to somebody and its not up to some self appointed authority figure to say otherwise. If I were told cheese and crackers are none-essential I'd just ask where it says that.
"I consider them essential for my mental health" is a phrase I've encountered more than once in recent weeks.

Just watched a documentary on the BBC iPlayer, in the history section for anyone interested, Spanish Flu, 50 million dead.
Let’s all hope the second wave, if we get one, isn’t as bad as it was in 2018!!
Also never heard of James Nevin, Manchester doctor during that time who dealt with it far better than the government of the day did. Tragically took his own life a few years after it was all over.

Arseholes of the highest degree and yes I would hope that on this occasion we start to get a little tougher with these wankers.

I would imagine after all the fucking idiots ignore the stay at home advice today, then by tomorrow night it will be a total lockdown .

100%, my take on the instruction to stay at home was basically this is a trial run for the coming Bank holiday weekend.

Given how poorly it was observed yesterday i highly doubt today will be any better. I am expecting the Government will announce an extension to the lock down of a further 2 weeks and a strict ban on anyone going out next weekend with certain caveats.

As of 5pm Saturday another 621 people have died.

That's a drop but given the trends of recent weeks there'll probably be a huge rise tomorrow or Tuesday. Seem to recall last Sunday dropping as well, maybe they call the figures sooner.

I hope I'm wrong.

It’s 16 days since the pubs closed, but only 14 days since that mental Mother’s Day where crowds of people were gathering in public places up and down the country, and 13 days since we went into lockdown. As much as I’d like it to be the case, going off other countries I think it’s maybe a few days shy of the figures starting to tail off.

What? Cheering you up or the link? :-)
Cheering me up. Nice idea but didn't quite gel for me.

But I went back to the best flashmob ever (start another self-isolation survival thread if you disagree). Looking for happier times when this is all over..

End of May, not end of April. The graphs suggest 200 deaths per day by end of April. :-(

And as you pointed out, the decay side of the curve is probably wrong (heck it's probably all wrong, it's only a model) since it will probably take longer to decay after the peak.

Yeah, I was looking at the 2nd graph which is showing less than 50 per day at the end of April/beginning of May. First one shows just over 200

I do enjoy a good flash mob. Thanks.

Is it just me or do people vastly underestimate how far 2m is? I see people spacing out in queues etc but they are not even 1m apart let alone 2m. Get a tape measure out and it seems most people would be shocked to see the actual distance we need to keep away from one another. And that is the MINIMUM distance. They seem to be confusing 2m with 2 steps.
Maybe they are all amateur referees.

The big question for me remains establishing how many have had it. Surely it must be in the multi millions now.

the infection rates in those last two weeks before lockdown must have been incredibly high.

Sturgeon agrees they will increase Tuesday

“In announcing the latest coronavirus figures, with two more deaths taking the tally of hospital deaths in Scotland to 220, Nicola Sturgeon said they should "not be taken as representative of events over this weekend".

The first minister noted that the reporting system for deaths is not fully up and running seven days a week and that she expects the figures reported today, and on Monday, to be "artificially low".

"These figures will be reconciled on Tuesday and Wednesday and I expect them to increase from the 46 deaths reported yesterday," she added.”
