COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Yes, they take ACE inhibitors, which makes your body produce more ACE receptors to get around the medication.
The relationship is complicated. While theoretically having more ACE receptors would make it easier for cell penetration, there is research on previous Corona outbreaks that suggest more ACE2 is protective of lung tissue.

Tunisia are going to charge any social distancing rule-breakers with manslaughter. That should do it! Tougher punishments are essential. Fines should be in the thousands, not 60 quid like we are fining. There needs to be an actual deterrent for the people that don’t think someone they love could die.

An important point which is often missed. Those arguing that the gov put the economy ahead of people miss the fact that the people are the economy and the economy is the people. Death rates from all causes increase markedly when the economy fails.

It's a very complex situation with lots of moving parts when you effectively redesign the way we function as a society. The lockdown will also have a negative impact on timelines of patients waiting for surgery, a significant increase in domestic abuse and I suspect a marked increase in mental health issues/suicides as the previous support structures are dismantled and rearranged. Then you could potentially factor in more positive points like less air pollution which has an impact to mortality rates, less deaths from narcotics etc. Nigh on impossible to model the net pros/cons of either strategy without any historic data to draw upon.

Engineers from a university have designed a new face shield that can be mass produced to meet the surge in demand from the NHS amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The team from University of Hull will use a high volume manufacturing process to produce 5,000 masks per day for front line healthcare workers battling COVID-19.

I love this country,so much innovation going on finding ways to help, businesses changing to produce what the nhs needs as well

The per capita infection rates across Ireland (figures from the official Government website, apparently)......

Anyone have the equivalent figure for the UK, or Italy?

How does anyone see this ending? Keep hearing about curves and graphs but realistically once we are allowed back out those curves and graphs are going to go back the wrong way and fast. But we surely cannot go on for more than a couple of months like this without small and large business not being able to recover. And then the issue of people’s mental health and the lack of freedom.

I don’t see an end game to this, all I see is us having to accept and live with it whilst trying to carry on as normal whilst thousands die.

This is not a time to add more variables... Give me just one box to tick!

Hi Tolmie,

Probably already covered but no, you are not self-employed. In the situation described you are most definitely an employee of your company, but at least you will be eligible for the 80% furlough scheme IF you have to shut shop (sorry if already covered).

Do you receive small business rates relief from the council? If so you may be eligible for the grants of up to £10,000 from the council.

Stay safe

Thanks mate - yep, realised that also, my mind was playing tricks, probably out of hope than anything else.

Don't have business premises (work from home for 25 years). I don't/can't take on loans I can't pay back, as cash flow is already impacted.

Essentially, my accountant said I am shit outta luck and the government have basically hung out directors of their own companies.

I can earn marginally more continuing to work for now, than what I would be entitled to on 80 per cent furlough for three months (I earn a very small basic monthly salary) before divs.

Me and the wife are seemingly getting fucked front and back - plenty of people in same boat and worse.

But that's because of the associated medication they have to take for those ailments isn't it? I have not understood why having blood pressure in itself without taking medication would impact the ACE2 receptor's normal response and functionality.

Yes, they take ACE inhibitors, which makes your body produce more ACE receptors to get around the medication.

It's the underlying conditions that make people vulnerable not necessarily the drugs. The illness bumps up your blood pressure and diabetes lowers your immune response.
If anyone is worried please, please talk to your doctor.
For example, there are alternative medications for high blood pressure but they may not work for you.

Same. I know its not the optimism displayed by some but I really don't see where we go from here. A horrible situation with all the top heads and scientists in the world working on it but so far we've got no answers.

real data trumps any modeling,we just have to follow the science, that is all we can do

Well apparently they are thinking of re-opening schools after Easter, so presumably with that and all the germs schools carry, we'll also see 1000s go back to work and not socially-distance.

IF that happens, I can see us turning the curve upwards again.

No chance - we are hearing from our kids teachers they don't expect to be back until the start of September, hence the exam marking being done on continual assessment.

So, all these things are related to the global/ capitalist pressure over the economy. The need to get things 'back to normal', when they have no idea of what is happen regarding this pandemic, is mind boggling.

We can certainly see that people are secondary to currency/ wealth as plain as the nose on your face.

As a society, we have to ask the question why.
Because if the economy doesnt work, we starve.

Lockdown

"We will be led by the scientific evidence of when is the right moment for the changes to be made," health minister Edward Argar told Kay Burley@Breakfast.

"At the moment that is not the right moment

I know what you mean but there is also the problem that a trashed economy has its own associated mortality rate via more widespread poverty-related illnesses - malnutrition, depression leading to suicides etc. We'll reach a tipping point between the two scenarios at a not too distant time.

I understand that, but the First World are in a perceived economy race to be 'up and running' forcing events before we know how the virus affects us, fully.

What trade and economy can be worked between countries without its workforce or someone to trade with.

It's a nonsense that capitalism has brainwashed society into and this is a wake up call.
