Well it's on around 90k at the moment and a lot of countries are coming to their peak. If it does get to the numbers you mentioned it will have to be a monumental fuck up by the powers that be around the world. I hope I'm right in saying that I can't see it getting anywhere near that.

I was watching a women from the WHO last night and she was asked about herd immunity,she said it was never a good thing to do,it was to lockdown and test and wait for the vaccine

This is why daily figures are useless. 117 in one day, some 15% of the total announced.

117 hospital deaths must be pretty encouraging.

The problem is we dont really know how many people are dying in hospital in other countries.

The mayor of Bergamo did a sky interview last week where he said they had no idea how many had died at home and they hadn't counted any of them.

So we know how many are dying at home here and they're being added as they come in, but possibly 3 weeks late but weve got nothing to compare it to.

The longer this goes on the more it feels like it'll be 5 years before the pandemic gets mapped out accurately.

By peak what do you mean? We may have a second epidemic but I can't see the Western world being caught out to the same extent again. The bigger problem is eradicating it from countries like India.

The choice will be scrapping the 2019/20 season or playing it behind closed doors. We aren't going to have fans in the grounds for months.

Even if it was allowed (highly unlikely), you wouldn’t want to go. Time the PL/FA got on with it, expunged the dippers’ results and confirmed us as reigning champions.

They can give us a guard of honour at the Community Shield in August.

The dates on the left are the daily update dates, the dates across the top are date of deaths, I think.

So the death numbers increase with everyday of updated numbers.

We need to get masks out to everyone. That way when the lockdown is lifted, along with hammering home the stay at home if you're ill and some social distancing like limiting numbers in bars/restaurants/buses/Train carriages then together with the people who are already recovered we should be putting up some serious boundaries to the spread.

It shouldn't be anything like as quick as the first spread.

the tv programmes are completely hypocritical.

gmtv had dr Hilary on the other day with Lorraine stressing how important it was to stay home and although it’s Easter , Easter eggs and visiting family will have to wait . A very serious piece.

they then said but it’s not all bad here’s a little vid to cheer you up. They then showed a video of a little girl delivering Easter eggs to everyone on her street.

so now we all know CV does not pass on Easter eggs !!!

Nice to see good morning is still essential viewing and Phil and holly are broadcasting live each day. Is that news show ???

The reason phil and holly are still on is because in normal times they get a couple of millions viewers,they are having all the virus experts on and answering questions and reinforcing the message about staying home etc,they are also doing items on how to cope with various aspects of this crisis,along with lots of laughing they are good for morale

We are going to have several peaks in western countries, followed by new lock downs and each peak should be less deadly than the one prior. But until we get a vaccines, then these coming waves will keep happening.

Once it properly hits India, Pakistan et al then all bets are off. India are thought to have suffered circa 20m dead in 1918 and with a much lower population. This is 10x less fatal than “Spanish” Flu (hopefully - although we still don’t know the real fatality rate and what it will be like in a country without the capacity to treat everyone) but has a much higher R0 (now estimated to be nearer 6).

We won’t know the worldwide death toll for a good few years and even then estimates will vary hugely (see 2009 SARS) but I wouldn’t be at all surprised with a final tally of anywhere between 5-30m

And if the % of already immune is anything like the 15% german figure that will also help suppress the second wave as the effective R0 will be lower.

God we sooooo need effective antibody AND antigen tests rolled out nationwide. They need to be as readily available and cheap as pregnancy tests.

Oh and the WHO women said on the subject of immunity that they don't know,some people have antibodies less than they expected so they cannot say at this moment that you get proper immunity
