COVID-19 — Coronavirus

OK it easy really, each colour represents the declared fatalities on the specific day. Each day the numbers are updated to show the actual day of death. So for example, at 2pm yesterday they announced that 140 people had died in England. But today that value is corrected to 496. Now each day that value will continue to be corrected as the death certificates are received until eventually the value becomes stable. 24th march looks like an accurate value now. 3rd of April is still being corrected up each day.
Think I have it now, so for example 5th march had 2 allocated to it on 7th April and 1 more yesterday.
And todays reported total allocated 356 onto yesterdays 140.

If it’s behind closed doors they won’t need stewards, catering staff, police, ticket office staff, merchandising staff. So it won’t be protecting their jobs will it. All the jobs in football could be saved if the actual clubs looked after their staff during this time of crisis. One game behind closed doors and I’m done, will I get a refund on my season ticket for the games missed? I doubt it.

Football can fuck itself the minute they go done down that route.
This CV crisis has caused lots of us to re-evaluate the contributions of front-line essential workers. That in turn has thrown into sharp contrast the obscene earnings of top footballers and the money-grubbing mindsets of certain top clubs.

A few short weeks ago, I was bellyaching (in good company) about losing to the rags. How perspectives have changed!

We need to get masks out to everyone. That way when the lockdown is lifted, along with hammering home the stay at home if you're ill and some social distancing like limiting numbers in bars/restaurants/buses/Train carriages then together with the people who are already recovered we should be putting up some serious boundaries to the spread.

It shouldn't be anything like as quick as the first spread.
Got fucking no chance of getting masks at the moment though, they are like rocking horse shit. Plus I wouldn’t want to feel like I was denying front line of any.

The austrian study is self reporting and worthless.
The UK study doesn't say if they tested for antibodies so is only slightly useful.
the one actually useful study is the German one where they tested for infection and antibodies.

missed that one, do you have a link?

Just on BBC News then: After GMP released a statement, a map and figures yesterday about 1,132 Coronavirus related breaches of rules just last weekend alone; West Midlands Police have come out today and said they’ve only had to issue 310 (155 instructions to go home, 138 noticed or dispersal and 17 fixed penalty notices) since the lockdown began two weeks ago.

That makes us look really bad!

Us ?

48 in Scotland, and 10 in Northern Ireland. Numbers not released in Wales yet.

Mate, you said you’ve been struggling a bit with all this.

My advice (which you don’t have to take or can tell me to sling it, if you want) to you, is to have the Easter weekend away from all this kind of talk. Go for a walk at dusk or dawn when it’s quietest outside and have a few days away from the news and this thread/forum. It’ll do you the world of good!

I thought most people realised that front-line workers have been undervalued for decades, certainly for the nearly 50 years that I've been an adult. I don't really understand the link between that and the football.

Footballers being paid high wages and front-line workers getting a substantial pay rise are not mutually exclusive.

The reason phil and holly are still on is because in normal times they get a couple of millions viewers, they are having all the virus experts on and answering questions and reinforcing the message about staying home etc, they are also doing items on how to cope with various aspects of this crisis, along with lots of laughing they are good for morale

They make me want to put my foot through the tele.

Are you close to fully over it Kaz?

Coming to the end of only the first wave peak.

It was the second and third wave that killed the majority in 1918-20. Do you expect the developing world to lock down for a year and a half? When the U.K. come out of lock down in a month, we’ll see another peak and the same for every country I’m afraid.
This time, till a vaccine becomes available we can use blood plasma from survivors as a substitute for vaccine to assist those at risk and those who are admitted to hospital. Very expensive, but cheaper than crashing the economy every 3 months.
Drugs to stop the cytokine storm that kills most of the victims would help too.

Sorry folks - I can't quite work out what the current R0 is? I've heard it as low as 0.6 to as high as 6.

10/10 :-)

If i was smart enough I would calculate a velocity for T-n (Today - number of days) and use that to predict the final values for each day after all future corrections. but I can't be arsed.

Slight correction as you started using one adjective and concluded using a different adjective, so I’m not sure if you are telling us you suffer from a lack of intelligence or you are just down right lazy!

We are going to have several peaks in western countries, followed by new lock downs and each peak should be less deadly than the one prior. But until we get a vaccines, then these coming waves will keep happening.

Once it properly hits India, Pakistan et al then all bets are off. India are thought to have suffered circa 20m dead in 1918 and with a much lower population. This is 10x less fatal than “Spanish” Flu (hopefully - although we still don’t know the real fatality rate and what it will be like in a country without the capacity to treat everyone) but has a much higher R0 (now estimated to be nearer 6).

We won’t know the worldwide death toll for a good few years and even then estimates will vary hugely (see 2009 SARS) but I wouldn’t be at all surprised with a final tally of anywhere between 5-30m
10x less fatal? Nope. If we didnt do anything, deaths were predicted between 200k and 400k in the UK.
As Spanish Flu killed 228k in the UK, that puts COVID-19 on a par or higher

1% death rate vs 10%.

So yes, 10x less fatal.

By fatal, I always mean death rate. ie how many per hundred die, on average. Comparing total figures of dead is pointless.

This is the problem with M.E. and Fibro. Anytime you get ill with something else it always sets you back months after you get rid of whatever you picked up. That can be one of the more frustrating things about our conditions. Naturally another aspect that is beyond the comprehension of the majority of non sufferers.
