The ban on fishing is ridiculous. When I used to do a lot of carp fishing I'd often go for days without seeing anyone. I reckon I'd be safer there than my local asda. Same on the rivers, if you saw someone on the bank also fishing, you wouldn't set up next to them, you'd walk a few hundred yards away so not to disturb them. Even match anglers are pegged 10 -20 metres apart.
Same goes for golf. I'd often tee off in a four ball and not get anywhere near anyone else till we all got to the green. Mainly because I didn't hit too many fairways. Social distancing while playing golf would be a piece of piss.
And the ironic thing is most anglers and golfers tend to be sensible and responsible people, who are most likely to obey the rules.
If you're missing your golf or fishing you have my sympathy.
Let's hope they lift the ban soon

The fishing ban is driving me crazy. I never see a soul when I fish, in fact I avoid people. One of the types of fishing I enjoy involves walking the canal bank throwing a lure into likely looking spots. I do the exact same walk now every day but can’t take my rod. It’s infuriating. Fishing is also a big money sport which supports thousands and thousands of small businesses, whether they be tackle shops, bait companies, fishery owners, etc. They’ll be going bump one by one.

Totally appreciate the angst with the lockdown including fishing on your own and even a round of golf.

Probably a few reasons behind it. It’s not essential. Doubt many people live close to their chosen fishing or golf course. Plus if you see someone being allowed to play golf then knowing the public they will kick off saying I can play snooker/crown green bowling/darts/badminton/tennis whatever and maintain two metre distance.

Nezt thing you know everyone is doing what they want. Wait. Pretty much what everyone is doing anyway

Hope you guys are coping well and will soon get your respite.

I agree but if they lifted it nobody would be jogging or cycling they would all be fishing then its exactly like the supermarkets catch 22.

I hear you buddy, and the type of fishing you just described is no different than a golfer going out on his own and playing a few holes. I honestly can't see a problem.
If they relaxed the rules a little here I really can't see everyone going out buying fishing gear or golf clubs, it's a bit more of a stretch financially than dusting an old bike off.
Hope you can get the rods out again soon, I really miss fishing, but it became a bit of an obsession, which wasnt good (carp fishing can do that)
I've enjoyed reading your posts on the fishing thread.
I might even buy some gear next year and do a bit of river fishing, loads of decent stretches round me.
No doubt I'll be bending your ear for advice if I do! I've lost touch with the scene I'm afraid.
Take care

Appreciate your thoughts and comments but if you think about it jogging isn't essential either is it? It's benificial, but not essential.
There's the mental health issue of course, but we're all built differently, I'd argue that someone who enjoys fishing as a form of escape has a more than valid claim that it's benificial mentally. I'm not sure about golf, it used to drive me fucking mental lol. Weird really, it never bothered me if I blanked when fishing, just being there was enough.

Here's yet another twist - you can be dying before you really get sick...

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/20/opinion/coronavirus-testing-pneumonia.html

I'd give it a bit more credence than some of the quackery about. (Someone posted about a doctor teaching deep breathing exercises - now that seemed odd, if the problem is when the virus gets from the upper respiratory tract and deep into the lung; if that is so, deep breathing would seem quite the wrong thing to do!)
That’s me walking to the pharmacy to buy a pulse oxymeter.

funnily enough if I am in my pub i can’t catch it from people in other pubs

meanwhile flights come in every single day unchecked

the tube runs every single day packed

the tram runs

people go back to work in offices

my bakers is open

people queuing in supermarkets

there is no consistency we either have social distancing or we don’t , it’s pathetic to say you are controlling it by closing pubs when at the same time people are rammed on tubes and planes.

so you relax the lockdown and say pubs no no but get on a packed tram , train or tube and get to work.
What if your pub is full of people on pub crawls, odds of infection go right up.

Spent the night at the Nightingale, it is bloody impressive what they’ve put together, let’s hope it never gets anywhere near full

Many cancer treatments have been delayed because they lower the individuals imune response.
Yeah, that's what my friend has been told.
Couldn't have come at a worse time for him, he's got bone cancer and they'd harvested all of his good cells ready for extensive chemo & have now postponed the chemo.
They've also postponed his Mother in Laws chemo, his Wife is splitting her time between her Husband and Mother and is terrified of catching & giving them this virus but not a lot else she can do.
He's in good spirits though, he told me to fuck off when i went to his house and sang happy birthday to him through a window

weirdly enough

my mums restarting her chemo tomorrow at stepping hill.

id take my chance in the pub over the tube any day of the week!!!
You missed his point. On the tube you're close to a limited number of people for a limited time (unless you walk up and down), and people will wear masks. In a busy pub it may be a constant churn of people, none wearing masks, and getting too pissed to be careful.

And you could always hire what used to be a Boris bike
