COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Made this point the other day. Why after weeks of lockdown, not just in the Uk, are thousands still being infected. Are they all people who are working normally across the world? Is it because asymptomatic people are passing it on? What’s going on?

Too many factories business as usual (my companies exact words) just had two people test positive as their partners work for NHS. They didn't show symptoms so could've already passed on to 10 - 15 others (shared canteen - not enough room to properly observe social distancing and no extra cleaners hired). Glad I was on holiday for 2 weeks over Easter, only in work for 3 hours Monday before they pulled the plug for a deep clean.

My youngest is 30 today. He's stuck at home with us. He's not worked since the lockdown. He's in a 3 year relationship with his girlfriend. She's NHS. She goes home to an empty house. They want to spend time together. It's pitting them against right and wrong. At the moment they're doing the right thing. It won't be long before they don't.

my brothers girlfriend was living with him and my parents until recently.

Due to her starting work on the children wards for the NHS and my mums cancer treatment she now has had to find accommodation. Fortunately she is only half a mile away from my brother but he can't go anywhere near her.

Yeah, that's what my friend has been told.
Couldn't have come at a worse time for him, he's got bone cancer and they'd harvested all of his good cells ready for extensive chemo & have now postponed the chemo.
They've also postponed his Mother in Laws chemo, his Wife is splitting her time between her Husband and Mother and is terrified of catching & giving them this virus but not a lot else she can do.
He's in good spirits though, he told me to fuck off when i went to his house and sang happy birthday to him through a window

I know each case will be very different but a friend of ours had a good couple of month gap between harvesting and stem cell insertion as she wanted to go to her son's wedding. the Doctors were fine with the delay's as it actually gave the body time to settle down a little post chemo before the stem cell session which kills the whole immune system.

Heres hoping that is why they are OK delaying it for him.

Im almost 100% sure this is why they are starting to get the army chief's into the briefings.

it maybe just me being cynical but I think the closer we get to unrest ( and this was modelled at the start, "lock down fatigue" I think they classed it as ) the more we sill see police and Army involved as a subconscious reminder that they are there and ready.

regardless of the odd incident of people breaking social distancing rules, overall been pretty impressed with how well the public have behaved, i suspect the Goverments economic measures have helped, but i was expecting riots and some of the sh*t we've seen in America, so far so good for the UK.

Agreed, so far very impressed with the way we have handled it in the most part.

Sorry to hear you had a shite experience I'm just recovering myself, I decided to have surgery to remove my prostate rather than radiotherapy or brachytherapy options, and, got the job done just in time, thankfully.

How are you now?
Certainly any chemo or radio therapy attacks the immune system so your choice of surgery was wise.
I spoke recently to a friend who had surgery and he said keyhole now makes it much less of a problem, in my case my age made surgery more of a risk .

Fully recovered white cells now and psa well below 1 so with a certain amount of confidence all will be ok when I make the long trip to Almeria Hospital for 6 monthly checkup but you never know with cancer.

Incidentally, just read that our individual mask price has been maximised at 96cents by the Government even though they are in very limited supply in the shops.

A drug treatment might actually only be days away from being announced, but by the same token hopes could just as well be dashed (Remdesivir clinical trial results imminent).

At the moment fear dominates but the virus is going to more or less disappear from some of the European countries if they continue mass testing which I am sure they will. Then questions will be asked here. This is not like it was in January and February. You can now station 5 minute testing kits at airports and transport hubs. We will shortly be able to test for antibodies and those people who have had it can go back to work. The positives of which there are many are just not being identified or pursued and leveraged here in the UK.

The UK is playing the long game fearing and wave but with surveillance testing, I really don't see a 2nd wave hitting Europe, or the US. If mass immunity is a realistic target then it might be worth pursuing even if it will cost a significant lives in the short term as it will provide a guarantee in the long term but at the moment there is no evidence that this is workable.

When are those trial results coming mate?

In the last 48 hours I've seen someone's parents arrive in my building with a cake, welcomed in by their daughter, a group of lads about between 25-30 years old (ffs) cycling about together, one of them spitting on the floor constantly, a party on a balcony with numerous people, seen a group of kids on someone else's balcony opposite my building, when there's never usually anyone there. Saw a bloke literally walk right through the middle of a line of people queueing sensibly outside of Sainsburys, totally ignoring people's space, and my missus has told me a work colleague of hers says her fella's sister keeps visitng.

People's attitudes are getting slacker and slacker. That's within the last two days. The cases won't be going down any time soon. In fact I think we may fall, plateau a bit, and then actually see a minor rise as people start to give less of a shit.

Just follow the company share price for earlier indication; there's always one squealer in biotech companies who doesn't care about the disclosure rules

Tbh its an area I know nowt about, so even if I could find it, I'd not be able to interpret it!

My area, Trafford, seems to be pretty good on the distancing, borne out by the figures for new cases dropping , yesterday was in fact single figures. The reluctance of the government to admit the virus was transmitting by air, and that hand-washing was all-important, will be a major part of any investigation..... (hopefully)

Good to hear that. My parents live right near Lostock circle so that's reassuring.
