Keir Starmer

What's happened to the Starmer thread? I purposefully stay out of the Brexit thread for a couple of reasons, so why is it being reproduced in here?
Apologies, my fault.

The irony is, if we’d had Starmer as the Labour candidate in the last GE he’d have probably done very well.

Millions of people have felt politically homeless for the last 10 years and I think Starmer could well fill that void and do very well.

Given the shit show the economy will be in 2024, the next 10-20 years of unbroken Tory rule might need revising as well......

The thing is, all the other G7 countries economies are going to tank as well, so fuck knows what’s going to happen.

I was really impressed with how Starmer dealt with Raab in PMQ’s.

My immediate concern is how Boris and his cabinet are held to account over their handling on Covid in the aftermath to this.

I don’t think there’s a person in the country more qualified for doing that than Starmer.

Unfortunately, the Remain campaign went for facts and truth.

It didn't cut through, and the bombast, hyperbole, bullshit and bigotry of the Leave campaign gained far more traction on social media (as it so often does, unfortunately).

I agree the Remain side ran a poor campaign, but they were constantly putting out fires of bullshit the Leave campaign were saying.

It's actually a flaw of the current democratic process that political campaigns can spread disinformation at such an exponential rate on social media and face no legal repercussions.

Hopefully the law catches up and some of these bastards can be held to account.
Mate, both campaigns were atrocious in terms of lies, trying to mobilise fear as a tool to gain votes ,and bullshit. Remain effectively got into the gutter with farage and fought on his terms and lost. That ship has sailed - sorry.

I disagree.

We shouldn’t write off legitimate democracy just yet.

I still have faith it can be saved.

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure you'd have been happy to accept it if you had got what you wanted.

Not if the campaign had been found guilty of election fraud and using the services of Aggregate IQ and Cambridge Analytica who are facing criminal conspiracy charges.

The legitimacy of the democratic process is actually more important than “winning” to some people. I’m one of them.

For every bot driving social media for leave there was one doing the exact same for remain.

When the Tories pay for social media campaigns and ads, so too do all other parties.

When One pays for a database of voters which they use sophisticated software to then target, they all do.

Your issue is your side lost, wasn't as good at playing the dirty game that politics has become and you now want to take your ball home and demand another go until you win.

When the government posted 9 million leaflets through our doors informing us to vote remain I don't believe in all honesty that the remain voters and remain politicians can grumble.

edit. It is well known that Labour HQ houses one of the biggest and most expensive systems in the world to identify and target voters with ads from social media and it very nearly won them the 2017 GE.

Obama won power using the exact same tech and approach.

Stop playing Brexit Bingo.

The actual issue is “the dirty game that politics has become”.

You don’t know me, so don’t delude yourself in to thinking you understand whether I would be happy with the result if “I’d won”.

I wouldn’t celebrate City winning the title if we’d been match fixing. Even if Liverpool fixed some matches themselves.

It would be a completely illegitimate league and my biggest concern would be to root out the illegality, rather than celebrating City’s “win”.

You're rambling now I'm afraid.

It’s a pretty simple and concise point.

If you don’t understand it, that’s a good insight in to you as person.

I understood it perfectly.

It was you rambling as you didnt like the answer I gave you or should i say the facts of modern day politics and how they all play the game.

No.

You clearly didn’t understand. I’ll try to make it more simple for you.

It’s not a “win” if the entire process is flawed.
