Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

I see your point but I don't think that's likely to happen. The only other options are they try and play the league and they get their two wins or they are awarded the league by default. I prefer the second option. That asterix will always be there and our records will never be broken.

And the astrix does resemble the emoji for the virus too

Qatar blue what I meant was that clubs insure their players against any injury/illness that will prevent them from playing. So that they will be covered, should they have to pay his wages while out injured or ill. With this Covid19 I am not so sure that the insurance will cover them against paying out his wages. They will have a get out clause somewhere in all that fine print. Therefore should they play while the 2metre distance is still on going. I just cannot se how any insurance company would pay out a single penny, if they are not following the Governments guide lines of staying 2meters. The only ones that know that is the club.

Also i assume the insurance companies will work on a percentage of players being out at any one time and not the entire football pyramid.

They must have some protection built in somewhere, just look at how they fought tooth and nail about the poor guy that died on the plane to cardiff. Sala???

Karen7 It only needs 1 player to test positive then the whole team players and staff will have to self isolate for 14 days. That is what the Government has said. Therefore that will mean not only 1 team but all the opponents as well. After that all the officials as well. As it could take anywhere from 2 days to 14 days to show any symptoms. It could end up that after 1 round of games the whole thing would have to be called off. As there could be more than 1 team that has the Covid19 virus. Then all that time would have been wasted

There is another possibility that 1 player could catch it before his team starts to play. Let's say he tests positive the day before the game, all of a sudden that game will have to be called off. As all of the players and staff will be self isolating for the 14 days the Government has said. Now 1 team has missed 2 games.

There is still plenty of time to get a vote sorted out. I would let the players decide for themselves. Let both the FA and the Premier League sort out a vote as to whether they want to start playing again. The majority wins so if 50.1% say no that is it. So there are 20 teams in the Premier League, say each team has 30 players, so that is 600 votes in total. Therefore let's say 301 say no then that is it. The Premier League is null and void. ALL votes must be sent to the players home address, that way no undue pressure can be put on the player. Any unreturned voting cards will be split 50-50. So if 30 cards are not returned that will be split 15 for playing and 15 for not playing. Job done and dusted.

I am still not 100% sure the players would be covered through the clubs insurance policy should they fall ill through catching the coronavirus while playing. My guess would be that they wouldn't be. This is probably due to them not following the Governments ruling at staying 2 metres away from a person. We will just have to wait and see what happens next week. This is when we will all get another update. To me unless we get a sudden drop in the death rates we might see another 2/3 weeks of this lockdown.

Would you be prepared to put your health at risk on the sayso of someone else? Should they be made to play if they don't feel safe and protected because half(just over) think it is ok? Not sure I would. Only takes 1.

I think you have found your vocation.

Apologies for using the reply button.

I think with crickets 'Hundred' competition one of it's objects, apart from obviously the TV money, was to get bums on seats for a new audience for cricket. A closed stadium defeated the object and, since it's a new competition, a delay to next Summer would easily be the best outcome.
