COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Might as well lock this for now as it’s just become political point scoring from both sides, and we have a separate thread for that.

over 700 people have died which is really fucking high when it should be falling and people are arguing over a testing target. It’s ridiculous.
The deaths though are largely a result of where we were 4 or 5 weeks ago, ie in exponential spread.

They've just shown a guy who was admitted to Poole hospital ICU 5 weeks ago, finally leaving the ICU today, just from that you can understand why deaths will take a while to fall.

We are now counting all deaths counted as Covid19 and have updated our previous daily numbers accordingly, and they admit that in care homes it is still spreading, though hopefully they are now getting on top of that, but deaths in that situation are going to take a while to fall.

The positives should be taken from hospital and ICU admissions, which are showing a significant drop now, and this will eventually show up in the number of deaths, probably 2 or 3 weeks from now.

I am not a fan of Ross Kemp but his progs on talking to the staff on their wards is very enlightening and everyone should know what these staff are giving up to care for us lot

I have posted all of that barr the last bit
27,497 home kits delivered

12,872 test delivered 'through the satellite process'

Tests counted on sending out,in no measure is that tests completed, massaging the numbers to meet a political target
What is actually more startling is that of the 122k, 73k people were tested...It seems v likely that the 40k sent in the mail form part of that 73...so the real figure is probably only 33,000 people tested yesterday..

Why does it seem “very likely”?

Just had a drive by viewing of my granddaughter, car pulls up windows shut and me and the Mrs get our first look at our six week old beauty. I lasted 20 seconds and the Mrs lasted about a minute, tears everywhere.
I swear to god if Boris said we need 200 souls to kick fuck out of covid down the passage in an arranged meet, based on the hatred for this fucking virus, I’d be one of the chosen 200, we would prevail. Unfortunately I’m fucking useless and in my 52 years I’m not worth a wank.

It's a fix, everyone knows it. Point scoring my arse. If by 'like the mainstream media', you mean, interested in the facts behind a soundbite, I'd take that charge. Frankly, you all ought to be ashamed of yourselves for rounding on people interested in the truth, whatever it is. They aren't the reason this country is in the shit, they aren't the partisan ones. You are. You're in complete denial and have to support your selves by projecting the strength of YOUR partisan feelings onto them. Going on about Jeremy Corbyn, what on earth is going on in your heads? Stuck in a moment and can't get out of it, that's what.

Plus there are mods using this thread for political 'discussion', who will move anything they feel uncomfortable about (care home figures, for one), out into the COVID political thread. And others closing the Boris thread whenever they get their arse handed to them. Absolute numpties, the lot of you. Rick ought to be laughing his arse off, the way he gives you lot leeway, there's no way anyone could ever accuse him of bias. It's nothing short of an open invitation for you to show how childish you are, and you rarely fail to disappoint. Well played lads, well played! Bye!
bye

Because the higher figure is number of tests-122. When 73k people were tested.

The higher figure has always represented those receiving multiple tests (-edit 67% here).

In recent days tests 'sent in the post' have been counted-approx 39-40k yesterday. So it is unlikely they form part of the excess multiple tests because they have not been completed. Therefore they are v likely to form part of the 73k tested (because the Govt are including them as tests completed).

God willing, you’ll have your whole, long lives to see her grow and blossom. The sacrifices you make now, physically small but psychologically large, help reduce the likelihood of others having to witness the ultimate tearful drive by.

Regardless of how the home tests are counted, the government promised to test 100k people per day by the end of the month - yesterday they tested 73k people. Therefore they missed the target of 100k.

However setting a target does seem to have focused attention towards the numbers being tested. There has been a huge increase in capacity in recent days, let’s hope this trend continues

Obviously slipped under the radar. Saved the best till last.

Personally I couldn't care less about targets on certain dates. For me it's all about having the capacity and I hope they continue to push well beyond the current 120,000. That's what is going to be important moving forward.

No but it does make his point lean towards political rather than being objective.

If it was a positive tweet and the guy had voted tory wouldn't that be the exact same thing? Essentially that means that only a person who votes one way and says a positive thing about an opposition leader is being sincere, which is of course nonsense.
