Keir Starmer

Nah that's unfair. He might have had his shortcomings but Corbyn was pretty good in PMQs, he'd have run rings around Johnson today too.
I genuinely think Corbyn is the worst Labour leader I’ve ever seen at PMQ’s.

One of the best at campaigning, but the worst at PMQ’s.

No wit, no real strategy, just a lot of shouting and repeating himself and getting frustrated. Theresa fucking May used to run rings around him, which tells you all you need to know.

It’s my genuine view.

It’s not really a criticism of Corbyn, he’s probably a better campaigner than Starmer. He was good at rallying a crowd.

But PMQ’s is the perfect arena for Starmer. As a QC he knows how to lay a trap and watch Bozo walk right in to it, like he did with the graph today.

Corbyn would have come out with bluster at the start showing the graph and then just repeating himself at every opportunity, shouting louder each time.

But Starmer’s thinking 2 moves ahead, calmly and with precision just totally outclassing the opposition. It’s like the difference between a James Milner and a David Silva.

It was more like a court room than Parliament today and Starmer doesn't meet with the hostility Corbyn did, he's one of their own.

I suppose PMQs will be a comfort for him as his party falls apart, but maybe that's the plan.

It's funny how people watching that same thing can have such different outlooks as i couldn't disagree more on that one. And I say that as someone who was and still is willing level criticism at him for other things. To each their own though! I think Starmer did an ok job today but I still think he's been a little gentle on them at times (but he might have reasons for that). Genuinely want him to do a good job though and he has my support (providing he deals with some of the in-house issues properly too)

You say “it was more like a courtroom than parliament” as if that’s a bad thing?

The Punch and Judy just doesn’t work anymore. The point of PMQ’s is for the opposition to hold the government to account.

And today it very much felt like Boris was the accused on the witness stand on the back foot being toyed with by the prosecution. I can’t recall seeing the opposition dominate a PMQ’s as comprehensively as that before.

And in terms of the party falling apart - membership may decline. I honestly don’t mind if it does. Big memberships help to create echo chambers and often lead to poor performance at the polls.

Labour needs to appeal to more than its membership if its ever going to have a chance of winning again. It may lose some far-left support in doing that, which is a shame.

But I really hope the whole of the left and the centre can get behind Starmer because he’s the best chance we’ve got of getting this buffoon out of office. That should be the overwhelming priority right now.

Was just about to say, PMQs is a lot better without all the pantomime twats bellowing in the background. Answers will get proper scrutiny this way, and Boris came up short big time today.

He should have mentioned Jimmy Saville.

The police not gathering sufficient evidence isn’t the fault of the Public Prosecutor, unfortunately.

But the death rate of 29,427 the highest in Europe, 2nd highest in the world, that IS the responsibility of the PM, so that was mentioned, thankfully.

Perhaps he shouldn’t have missed those 5 COBRA meetings and taken weekends off to deal with the fall out of his scandalous personal life. Or been shaking hands with Covid patients. Maybe he should have sorted out PPE so our brave doctors and nurses didn’t needlessly die because of the PM’s bumbling, buffoonish incompetence.

Indeed. Said a few times, having a QC as opposition leader at this moment of time when it's not about party politics as such but proper scrutiny of the government and holding them to account is a very good thing.

Completely agree with the above points. The shouting/berating/booing that normally takes place in there makes the entire country look like a laughing stock. And that's from all sides of the political spectrum. I hope they'll see this and when they are all back in there in a year or so time will have banned it returning to the norm of who can talk the loudest and get in their pre-written soundbite.

Sadly, I think it'll return to its old ways instantly (again.. I'm talking about all sides of the political spectrum.. not one party)

The same has been said about QT with no audience shouting and no "plants" in the audience either. I really think that the idea of simple direct questions and simple direct responses with no interruptions should be maintained because that way those capable of making and maintaining a cogent argument will rise to the top over the shouty thicko's with any luck.

Completely agree. QT should be questions tweeted in (they could even live tweet if they wanted) and then the presenter puts the question to whoever and they (in turn) back and forth debate it.

And, there's a fact checker(s) that will (through said presenter) correct them on any false information, in real time.

Sadly it will go back to exactly how its always been, race to the bottom whilst they all make noise over each then all play the victim (sometimes its worthy, often its a "scouse" mentality shall we say).

(Just to again, be 100% clear, im referring to all sides of the political spectrum!)
