Running thread

Did a 5 mile run along some pathway heading to Oldham from Ashton Friday.

Glorious sunshine you name it. Did it in 53 mins so I reckon in a few weeks I may beat my 10k of 1 hour 25 from last years GMR.

got some new compression pants, running glasses and the freetrain Mobile holder ready for a run out tomorrow

Best get used to those especially if you end up running the longer distances
My plan was just getting up to running 5k a day. I’ve never really fancied doing the whole long long distance thing as it doesn’t hugely complement weight training. Not unless I win the lottery and can sack off work.

Do you have a good recommendation on the trainer front - I don't want to balls up my next purchase?
No mate, in all honesty you need to find out what suits you, I’ve gone back to a relatively cheap pair that I originally just picked up in the Nike store on their end of line stuff, tried many more expensive ones but nothing felt like them so searched online and managed to find them again.

I always wanted to do a marathon but was too busy playing football to put the hours in, after sacking that off at 48 I decided I’d start regular 5 and 10k’s then build up to it, completed 3 now and should have done 5 but for this coronavirus malarkey..... it gets addictive this running lark.

Yeah that was going to be my next question.

As I got back into it a month to two ago, I couldn’t help but keep adding 1/2k then 1km etc but my Mrs has proper bollocked me and told me I can only run 5k now (I was literally useless round the house and couldn’t walk the dog - which is a 4x a day chore/joy).

Do you find yourself adding the miles on? Is it competing with yourself or you just still fresh?

I vary it constantly now mate, 5k, 1 mile sprint, bleep tests, LSR or 10k. Just depends how I feel at the time currently. As there’s nothing to train for it’s just about getting out and running. If I’ve got something like a half or full coming up I do one long run at weekend, a recovery run on Monday and a steady 10k on the Wednesday. As I say depends on what’s coming up.

Youll find the more you do that a 5k or 10k whilst tiring at the time, you’ll feel fine a couple of hours after and even be able to go out again if needed, it’s like you weight training, you get conditioned to it after a while.

Went out for a 7 Mile run today and ended up doing a half marathon distance. Perfect weather for a run. Got to 7 mile mark and felt fine so pushed for 10 mile. Got to 10 mile and thought sod it try for the 13.1. Done it and still had mileage in the tank.
Feeling it now though, aching like hell. First time I've done the distance since doing the Manc half marathon in 2018. Not the best time though. Did it 1 Hour 47 in 2018 and today was 1 Hour 57.
My dad has completed a marathon in 2 Hours 47 twice!! How the hell do you manage that!!

Run like fuck.
Well done on today mate, not sure I’d fancy running it that wind, bad enough on the bike.

Was a bit miffed this morning when doing my weekly weigh-in. I posted on here the other week that working from home has given me the kick up the arse to hammer the treadmill and lose some weight. Was ramping it up more and more and Monday to Thursday last week I was doing 3 stints per day. Managed a non-stop run of nearly 6k one morning which was the furthest I’d done by a long way. Didn’t do anything like as much Friday and Saturday - maybe it was the warm weather that made it feel tough - and yesterday had a day off. Somewhat annoyingly I weighed a tad more this morning than last Monday morning and it felt all that effort I put in on 4 consecutive days last week was a waste of time. I’m sure it wasn’t as I’m guessing I’m fitter than I was a week ago and today got back on it and did another 3 stints.

Put it down to muscle gain mate, it’s what I tell myself.....

On the bike today, 8.6km in 28mins.

First time on a bike on the road, first time on a bike sober in about 8 years (my actual last time on a bike was round Amsterdam a couple summers ago....)

I felt good, tired and some new pain in the legs but good.

I was riding my dad's hybrid bike so I'm hoping the road bike ive got will cut a bit more weight off the bike when I get it up and running so that will make things a little easier.

Did a 5k walk at lunch and then the bike ride after work. Going to keep going with that pattern for a few days and see how I get on.

Do we have a cycling thread out of interest?
